AA Idea

What if, instead of the O button intensifying AA on one side of the ship and reducing AA on the other side, you could use the O button to fire off your heavy flak guns? Not aim them, just make them go bang, the computer would still aim.

While this isn't the same as self-aimed shots, it would randomize the arrival of flak puffs in a way the CV pilot would not be able to predict and resolve the complaint that flak puffs are so predictable planes can fly around them. And it would give ship players a chance to directly influence their AA interaction.

Since AA has changed from strike prevention to maximizing damage losing the ability to focus light AA on one side of the ship is less important than it was under the old system. What additional damage you lose while the planes are on their attack run you gain after they've dropped. And it would eliminate the complications associated with focus fire.

This could be a way to address the complaint that surface players make about having no control over the ship/aircraft interaction without rethinking the entire AA system.

I liked the idea stated by someone in Mouse's AA thread that got closed which proposed that AA introduce disruption effects, and not solely depend on damage. This allows more agency for the player without imbalancing by higher and higher damage outputs deplaning CV's.

Interesting idea. Unpredictable Flak would be a nice change.
