Subs are now quite underwhelming? Don’t you think?

My biggest issue is that homing torpedoes only seem to work about a third of the time.

Launch torps.  Get a nice ping.  Get another nice ping.  Then another.  "Your torpedoes have lost their target".

Launch torps.  Get another nice ping.  And then another nice ping.  Torps just fly straight.

I don't understand how ships are able to shrug off multiple pings.
