I though it needed a nerf for sure . dont think a hydro nerf was it though . If its using hydro to chase out DD's its putting itself in dangerous positions .   Nerfing it ship detection and torp detection will keep it from pushing, well it should anyways .

Will still be fun, but can't have them being too much fun.

You had to know WG would nerf them to protect DD’s and because they are actually good and fun. Because they can’t allow that. The horror.

Well, the nerf was predictable because of the increased pressure on DDs. It was clear it wouldnt be a secondary nerf, because a lot of folks apparently prefer watching their Roomba go brrrt over relying on main armament.

God forbid they are able to defend against a DD or damage it if spotted.

Anybody who didn't see this coming from a mile away was in straight up denial.  It's a shame because they are a lot of fun.  Hoping that the nerfs are minor enough to not make them un-fun.

Just to make it clear, they are good against BAD DD players

Much like (non-stealth) radar, against any good DD player secondaries are irrelevant.

theyre still going to be the most dangerous secondary BBs to go near just by sheer volume of firepower put out, as long as they can still brawl like they do now, im happy with them

80% of the DD players in random are what you would consider ''BAD players'' so....

Then there are 50% lazy BBs that want secondaries to do all their work.

The nerf wasn't because of DDs, but because they were overperforming as a whole against every class.

The nerf of Schlieffen secondary armement is kind of justified IMHO.
Not sure why WG felt nerfing hydro range was needed, however. Especially for T8.  Bismarck has 6km hydro and comparable secondary armement, and it's been like that for years...
Otherwise, there aren't that many BB with hydro below T8 so their range might have been a bit "too much" indeed, and T9-10 get vastly superior secondary armement over the previous BB line so I get it.

The only reason to nerf Zieten hydro range was probably to make it somewhat more consistent with the rest of the line but at that point, I think it could justify buffing Zieten secondary armement too.

Just my 2 cents...

Bismarck’s hydro detects ships at 5km and torpedoes at 3.5km. GK and FdG have 6km hydro.

Bismarck has “only” the boosted (+20% IIRC) German secondary accuracy, while the German CCs have Massachusetts-level dispersion on top of the 1/4 pen on the 105mm and 150mm secondaries. Fully buffed secondary dispersion for Bismarck and Zieten at 11.5km is 182m and 140m, respectively. Also, starting at tier VIII there is 0.5km or less difference between each CC’s maximum secondary range and minimum surface detection range. With Bismarck, you can get that window down to ~1.4km.

The German CCs are extremely effective close range combatants. I’m not sure nerfing the hydro was the right way to address this, though.

IX BLACK:

  • Surveillance Radar action time reduced from 22 to 19 s.

I see they nerfed Black's radar a bit. Maybe a hint that they are getting her ready to be available again soon. One can dream.

They did mention a couple months ago in the status update from Ahskance that they were going to nerf her a little before re-releasing her.

I hope they don't go any further with the nerfs , IMO they're pointless without the secondaries , they go boom too easily compared to the old KM BB line . Slopedoes are handy some of the time but they're not my choice for playing a torpedo boat . I don't build for full secondaries on my regular KM BB's , better to put 15 or 16 inch shells in to the enemy than tickle them to death IMO .

It's not very fun when they're 80-90% of BBs at top tiers. Too popular at the moment compared to other nations even if they are FOTM.

Definitely a weird way of nerfing them. Let's hope with this nerf that players learn not to push too hard and die early. It is extremely common nowadays.

Rest assured, this is only the first nerf that the line will take. There will be more.

When a ship can play itself for well over 100k damage a game without you ever firing your main battery, somethings gonna get nerfed...

Everyone saw this coming.

The German BCs needed a nerf, problably the accuracy of the secondary armament, since until this point, secondary focused vehicles in the game had three options until last year:
1) average accuracy and high pen. Mostly the German faction;
2) high accuracy and low pen. USN premium BBs;
3) Insane DPM but no pen at all. Italian and French BBs (but a secondary build for these ones is not the best approach, relies too much on fire RNG);
Bonus) SAP secondaries. Napoli and G. Verdi, only two ships atm, so putting them here just as a bonus and because both are premiums.

While the new German BCs got everything in a single package... and the issue is still there.

But then... an hydro nerf!?!?!?

If a DD is not paying attention because he is playing a gacha game on his mobile phone he is tunnel visioning inside a smoke screen just to get numbers popping on his face all the time by spamming LMB or he doesnt want to stay further than 6km away from hydro range that is really managable even for a potato player to avoid getting too close to the target with a ship that is faster and more manuverable... that is not problem of a hydro that is 500-1000m better than the standard one, but from the poor play from DDs.

The reason why i mentioned DDs it is because that's the reason WG gave for nerfing hydro for German BCs.

That's the same reason WG nerfed Bismarck back in the day, she also had 6km hydro, when the problem was the fire chance of the secondaries being higher than 10% even for 105mm guns that was only solved later.

any nerf is a bad nerf. even if something needs it. because they never know when to stop. once they start nevfing something they wont stop till its nered to useless. back in the day with WOT they did this. its like their meth. they just cant stop

'tis expected.  If I wasn't driving one in a game (Schlieffen, Ruppecht, Zie, etc.), someone else was.  Even more so than the usual secondary-spec suspects like Bis, Tirp, and Massa.
