With the Sevastopol on the horizon and all the changes that have been made; I think that this will be a pretty good ship.

They removed the speed boost but instead, they buffed the heal, gave it Seigfried dispersion, and removed the fast damage con.

Probably not going to be as op as Stalingrad but I'll be looking for other opinions.

It definitely feels like WG doesn’t really have any idea what to do with the ship and is just throwing stuff at a wall and seeing what sticks. I’m not sure how I feel about giving this ship Siegfried’s accuracy, as I was hoping we might get such a German ship at tier X, as that nation is missing a tier X “special” cruiser (and is only next patch getting their first non-CV ship, which isn’t even a new ship but rather GK).

This latest development does make me wonder if WG has plans to retire Stalingrad, though, as it looks like both ships will play quite similarly and have very accurate, hard hitting AP. Seems to me that it would make more sense to drop this ship to tier IX, where there is less similar competition (Stalingrad, Moskva, Petropavlovsk), and balance it accordingly otherwise.

It doesn't sound as bad as it seems, remember it only has 6 guns. Shell volume is a heavily underrated value in large ships since consistency can be partially attributed to it. Similar to Shikishima or Incomparable, giving 6 gun ships good dispersion helps make them not a complete frustrating mess to play. You want to be able to punish mistakes after all.

I doubt Sevastopol would do anything to Stalingrad as it is, just like how Shikishima did not render the Yamato completely pointless. Stalingrad still has 9 hard-punching guns with a 2.6 sigma after all. If anything I hope Sevastopol would be more viable in competitive play (although that's near impossible to call rn)

I feel annoyed with this ship’s existence as I just recently got Siegfried. Research bureau ships are hard to get. I am going after Ohio next soon enough here.

I never speculated on how powerful Sevastopol would be, nor claimed she would be OP or might make Stalingrad irrelevant. I was commenting on their similarities and how crowded tier X is with Soviet ships with similar play styles.

When they removed the speed boost they killed the ship for me.

Its all about speed. Get into position to actually do something good before THEY get there first.

It's a better ship right now after the changes. I'd rather have a ship that is better able to survive and better able to hit targets with it's guns. Speed boost is a nice gimmick but doesn't make all that much of a difference.

I couldn't see the ship work with a limited number of FDCP;  super cruisers can't equip skills like FP or BoS and will burn for 60 secs, so spawning into a game with a few HE spammers on your flank would mean death toward the mid-to-late game, easily.
I'm glad they changed their mind about that. A limited number of FDCP works for BBs because of their skill sets and huge HP pool.

I am still concerned about Sevastopol being a large ship with 30mm upper belts (overmatched by 457mm). Even more so now it lost the speed boost. Basically, the survivability will often be tied to how well you can dodge salvos from BBs on your flank, and it gets really bad rudder and turn radius so.... Without engine boost, Sevastopol might be a giant pinata for Ohio, Yamato and such. And that's probably why they buffed the heal at the same time; you'll need it.

At this moment, it seems like WG is trying to make the ship a mid range specialist. Petro for close range, Stalingrad for long range, and Sevastopol for mid.  But Moskva is already pretty damn good in this role, and it gets the 50mm upper belts. I can't see any reason (yet), to get Sevastopol before Moskva.  380mm just doesn't offer enough overmatch capabilities at T10 (still can't overmatch a 27mm belt from Worcester, as an exemple), but T9 gets CLs with 25mm so it loses some of the Siegfried's appeal right there.

I'll be keeping an eye on the ship ( I already was), but my interest remains limited.
