Because people may have said things on there or the maker themselves that need to be seen by an administrator. And don't mess up next time if you made a bad thread. You can also delete your main post and put in something like "pleass delete or close this thread." And they may do so depending on what is there. Not just what you said but others too. Until we can begin the Animal Farm-style revolution against the mods I've mentioned, we're stuck having to ask for threads to be deleted. Which isn't a problem.
