Thoughts on the diversity of ages in Warships

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I've been wondering about something for a while.

In World of Tanks there seems to be trend of older Tanks at the lower tiers and the newer tanks/prototypes seem to be at the top tiers, this is understandable. My point is will the same trend apply to Warships? Even if a BB is bigger/larger than newer designs will its rank be dictated by it's age, even if it could be considered bigger?

I've brought this question up because in the game it seems that the tech trees for the Americans and the Japanese starts later than that of other nations and I was just curious.

Thanks for any thoughts that peeps have.

It appears that tech trees will not be solely governed by date.  For example  the Alaska class was created after the Iowa class, yet it appears that the Alaska will tier lower than the Iowa based on the ships capabilities and weaponry.

Well, for example, look at the Tillmans. They could easily fight in the high Tiers despite that they were designed long before most of what would be considered high tier BB material.

Yea good point. Also even though the Bismark newer than other battleships it was smaller and armed with smaller/less but it was faster, as far as I can tell if BB's in Warships are just going to slug it out older but more heavily armed BB's may be better. Thinking about it, it depends on the size of the maps and the range of BB's to see if speed is important for them.

The HEtzer is a 1944 tank, yet tier 4 it's based on combat ability, not age

Maps are going to be 50-60km by 50-60km. So speed will be a helping factor

So if you're going at 24 knots it's going to take close to an hour to cross a map? They've got to increase the speed of everyone or decrease the size of the maps or else game will literally last hours.

Look at the German TD line in WoT for a bit of hilarity (late war Hetzer comes before early war designs like the StuG and Ferdinand).

It's a matter of capability, it just so happens that the more recent in time you go, the more advanced our weapons get.

Such a statement made in ignorance of the start positions is at best unwise.

When your effective engagement range could be around 15km, that may not be too bad.  They've already said you can not expect to be able to get "back to stop cap" as a large battlewagon in the time allotted.

Starting ranges have been confirmed in the Q&A thread.  Forces will be separated by 30 to 40 KM.

Good point I diddn't consider that.

Alright suppose I assumed that they would do something to stop the game as BB's being shooting at Pixels in the distance.

There will be an "artillery-like" view in WoWs WoT used by ships that have guns of a class that could reach out to that distance.  You'll be hovering over the spotted ship with a gun sight to use to drop rounds on them.

Good point that also makes sense.

Oops, thanks King.  I'm working on a WoWs intensive project right now and have that acronym on the brain.  :)

I've corrected the post.
