Why does Dallas not have depth charges?  No depth charges and no AWS planes, what's a light cruiser to do?

So? Not every cruiser has hydro or radar.

You think it makes sense for a light crusier, ok dude.

I didn't think anyone considered Dallas OP.  I guess it is and needed a nerf.

Oh, I dunno... work with your team in this team game? There's a thought. Like, people whined that Destroyers were the only ones who could deal with subs. So they gave more ships ASW. Now players are whining that they-- ugh! -- have to work together with non-Destroyers on their team to take care of submarines. Not every ship is meant to be able to fight every other ship equally, why in the hell would fighting against subs be any different? Enough non-Destroyers have some form of depth charges that, just like with Radar, many matches will see at least one or two per side. Communicate the sub's location (even if its just pinging!) and work as a team to take it down or drive it off.

Atlanta does.  I don't have Flint, but the two are from the same class, it wouldn't surprise me if Flint has DCs also.

Every ship needs a way to defend its self from subs

That’s being patched next update. My guess is that Atlanta was nerfed in internal testing and somebody forgot to change Atlanta B.

WG’s stellar quality control at work.

By that logic, every ship also needs a way to defend itself against planes, right...? Except many higher tier ships have rather lousy AA defenses that wont even drive a strike off after its second drop, let alone after its third or fourth. Does this mean that every ship also needs radar to defend itself against Destroyers, since working with your team is a foreign concept? Maybe every ship also needs heavy armor to defend itself against Battleships being able to blap a ship with a single salvo. Should all Destroyers also have a heal to counter HE slinging Light Cruisers?

I feel like too much of the community's issue these days is a desire to not actually participate as a team and instead just do their own thing no matter if it causes a win or a loss.

Not worried about it at this stage. It's if they're missing when subs go fully into the game that it'll be an issue.

Its not possible for this to be a team game because 12 random people do not a team make without a lot of training together.

Try putting Claude Brown in the Atlanta and see if the situation reverses; I'm guessing he's got Superintendent (or something similar) affecting that.

No, the Atlanta B currently has 50% more depth charges per drop than Atlanta.

From the 0.10.8 (upcoming patch) dev blog:

VII ATLANTA B:

Number of depth charges in a charge reduced from 12 to 8. Now it's the same as Atlanta.

Except for the "special" classes of CVs and subs, they are expected to use their strengths to fight all other classes.

I notice it is always these special class proponents that want to do their own lone wolf thing that stress that "its a team  game" as justification that some ships should remain helpless against them.

I think this stuff is intentional.  They wanted to see how ships worked with/without.  Like how the Black ships (Cossack/Kidd?) didn't have them at the start.

Problem is, unless people are taking Dallas in to rank, they aren't getting any real information.  Coop doesn't really count.  Coop is mostly to let sub drivers learn mechanics.

You are correct, both of those premiums do have ASW defenses, but the tech tree ships do not nor the other premium CLs and CAs

Yes, it is.  Otherwise Discord  would be out of business.

And you are assuming 12 strangers agrees on the same or similar strategy.

thats because voice is handy for fast cordination, general stuff like "ok guys, hit B then C then A" at the start of a match is common.

except CVs are in a worse case then even BBs in terms of being able to impact submarines.

Look I'm primarily a BB skipper. I'm not too worried about being vunerable to submarines because let's face it how often do battleships rush into a cap without cruisers or destroyers nearby right now anyway?

Kind of my thought.  Without some crazies, WG is getting no info for potential (who am I kidding) putting subs in to randoms.

Yet all USN tree CL's have Def AA AND hydro and the purpose built USN AA ship has to give up hydro to get Def AA.

What can I say.... WG logic.

The CVs have 2 saving graces vs subs:

1. They are typically way in the back, it will take forever for a sub to get to them.

2. Their auto rapid reload DC will make getting double pings problematic.

I don't play CVs so don't know the effectiveness of any of their planes on a spotted sub.
