and Steam Reviews:

Pretty accurate... More precise then some articles I've seen.

WG in the meantime has decided to bolt down the hatches and wait out the hurricane after what they've triggered...(No communication yet from the Global Communications MGR. Sub_Octavian).

Rightfully so... A game never dies of a cut... But a thousand cuts, its do-able.

When it makes to the Cyprus version of the Yachting Times then it will get noticed.

That article is kinda cringe worthy, more like neighborhood gossip, she even fell for the devs "butchering" LWM name... Not the PC Gamer quality research I used to read.

Useful to get some more noise out there I guess, but feels like a bad copy/paste of a secondary recollection (MOP)

So, is seeing the game die your desired outcome?

I like that one of the Steam reviews states "there is no anime in this game".

No.... As I stated in old threads in the forums, this is not my first MMO... Its deja-vu all over again, it least for me it does feel like ground-hogs day everyday.

I dont think the changes needed to be made within WG, can not be achieved no matter of my desired outcome...

At this stage, after giving out advisory of impending train wreck...  Its best to see it implode and learn from it.. Then to have false expectations to the reality of the end of the line.

The real question is... Have you enjoyed the show so far ??? So far.. I have... WG still haven't responded yet... Mind you, I am taking notes.

Well that's good. I'm sure that someone will find your taking notes very intimidating. Likely it'll keep them right on track

Better it should die then continue on and its current form. The company culture has made things so bad that we'd all be better off without the existence of war gaming. The fact of the matter is that they have reached a critical mass so they don't think that they should have to change. It's not "their problem" after all, it's ours. (Sarcasm x10)

No one will.. Its not meant to "intimidate." Its more of preserving the history of WG's :etc_swear: ups

Pardon me for asking but this is my first MMO.  Do they all die like this?

Very few reasonably sized MMOs have actually disappeared.  A few have and it's been the dev that shut them down.  Most of them that have gone the way of days gone by, still langish with a vastly reduced playerbase, a shell of what they once were.

One that I can think of that actually shut down was Earth and Beyond.  It was a small scifi/spaceship MMO that I used to play back in the day.  The devs gave notice of the "sunset" (the last day that that servers would be up), a few months in advance.

The day came and the players all arranged to mostly be in the same place (in game) when it happened. So everyone gathered, the connection dropped for the last time and the world went poof.

Well... The other MMO followed the same path as WG.. In the following analogy, I would not say "ALL" I dont think every MMO has shoot its

  • toe
  • leg
  • Stomech
  • Hand
  • Arm

Its going to happen, they remained viable... But once you shoot

  • The Heart
  • The brains
  • Lungs

Then your viability AND survival are on the line.. I would say fatal, you scared off your customers.

This was only an analogy... Not all MMos would even dare shot themselves... Not even once...

No.  But often follow the same general pattern.  Start off with enthusiasm, gamers for gamers, listen to their player base, keep them involved.  Get bigger, start making money...the suits get involved.  Get bought out by a big game company...now it's both suits and beancounters involved.  Quit listening to their base.  Start squeezing for dollars to the point the entire game revolves around accountants rather than gameplay and players.  Start bleeding subs.  Double down on the exact things that are running people off, to keep revenues up, which hastens the fall.  Eventually implodes.  Sometimes they end with a bang, sometimes they just limp along, a shadow of their formers selves, sometimes just vanish without a trace.

This one...is going to limp along until they've squeezed every drop of juice out of it.

Two I miss the most are (might be wrong about the names at this late date) "Air Warrior" and "Aliens vs. Marines".  Both were excellent games.  Aliens vs. Marines (or whatever its name was) was outstanding.  Standard space station, small group of plucky Marines attacking the usual tentacled aliens hiding in the vents.  Extremely well done, best I've seen, great community.  Could play as either a Marine or an alien.  Gameplay was spot on.  Just vanished, sadly.

Yeah, I read the whole article. PC Gamer sold out many years ago, and looks like they haven't improved.
They tried to paint it like the whole story was about 1 ship, and completely ignored
the systemic abuse, which was the core problem.

In their defense, they did mention that the writer was straight out of journalism school
and knew nothing about video games.
I'm guessing she read 1 article, then rewrote the story, just like they taught her in college.

We, don't have a vote, and as WG has made pointedly clear, they could care less about our opinions.  We're strapped in the passenger seat, watching the trainwreck unfold.  I've got a fair amount of money in this game, certainly don't want to see it die.

That said, WG has it coming.  So I can watch with some amusement as their hubris and arrogance destroys them.  Money I've spent is already sunk...and really, I've gotten my monies worth of entertainment value, so can't fault them for that.  This, is like going to the movies and getting a free double feature.  All I have to bring is the popcorn.  It's a two, plus, also!  More entertainment for your gaming dollar!

You reap, what you sow.

Definitely not the world's best written article, but anything getting word out there is likely to make WG management sit up and take more notice.

You didn't go to college, did you?

So many of you guys seem to actually WANT to see the game we presumably like to play crash. If it does, it does, sure, it's not a huge deal. But I don't see how it benefits me or you.

First indication business is going bad is server fusion. We still have four servers with no plans of fusion. The game is mature but far from dying.
