Dev Blog about Subs made me giggle a bit.

So I found this sentence referring to Subs appearance in 0.10.7 a bit funny: Besides Ranked battles, submarines will be able to enter Cooperative Battles to be tried in more calm surroundings.

Calm, not the word I would use to describe Coop. Must be a translation thing...

Serious, yes.  But serious in an "Orson Welles at a buffet" kind of way.  Some people don't really mind if you reach past to grab a chicken leg, but a few might bite your arm.

It's okay, I'm one of the ones who usually doesn't bite arms.  

In seriousness, though, I actually think putting the subs in co-op is a good move.  I didn't do any of the previous sub tests, but my understanding was that they were mixed teams of humans and bots against each other and that there were additional restrictions to control the population so there was a mix of ships and not just all subs.  Co-op won't have the restriction of making you wait to sub it up, and people can learn how to use subs (and hunt subs) with some degree of leisure and not have to worry about running into an enemy sub driven by somebody who's been squatting the test server for days before you got in.  Subs are gonna wind up in there eventually anyway, so I just think of this as a form of early access.

Co-op games are a "mostly friendly" shark-week-on-television-feeding-frenzy of players attempting to do the most damage and sink the most ships in the shortest amount of time.

But that means WG diverting time and resources into Operations, something they're loathe to do ever since the CV Rebork of late January 2019.  Well, except for Ops Nerfs.  They're always game to drop in and do that every now and then.

Dynamo

 

If they can't bring these old Ops back, they won't bother to expand on Ops at all.  Not to mention WG stated specifically they were throwing Ops under the bus for other parts of the game.

Operations take a lot more work to develop than most other things that WoWS has.  I understand how taxing this is for both programmers and developers.  That said, they're already working on convoy mode for PvP,  so those assets are already in place, its just a matter of leveraging those assets to create an operation.

It will be interesting to see if they adjust the bot AI once the subs are added. The bots AI in sub test was different, they rarely pushed beyond the midfield and played very conservative, it wasn't rare to have most human players die before the bots. Of course this was done to "preserve" a target rich environment for subs during mid-late match. For the test it worked fine, but IDK how it would work for your regular Coop player to be kited by a bot... I expect cries of foul play.
