Designating a grid for attention - how?

I am trying to figure out how to let my teammates know my radio direction finder is locating enemy ships.  I see others using grid locations, such as F3, that need attention.  How do I make that happen?  Is there a video?

Ah!  While in the mini-map (press M), pressing Ctrl and then selecting the area with a mouse double-click.  Who would'a guessed.

Map-pings are vague.
I encourage people to use words, instead.  :-)

You don’t even have to be in map mode; if you hold the control button during battle your cursor will appear and double clicking squares on the minimap will ping them for your teammates.

If you are using RPL, please say it before you ping. Most of the times the rest of the team doesnt know if there's someone or you are just doing it for fun
