Will you be able to tell the program to proceed with evassive manouvers like the Captain would tell the helmsman, or will we have to keep zigzagging right and left and practice not hitting each other?

Sometimes you're your own worst enemy.  I think some of those battleships had a turning radius of the better part of a mile.  Hence the use of tugs in port.  I doubt any of them had even heard of a bow thruster back in the day.

I have a feeling the person will have to keep turning his ship.  I mean in WoT and WoWP it was always player controlled.  But I guess it couple be possible to have the AI do something like this although I probably would prefer to do it on my own because it might be possible to predict what the AI will do if its a set pattern.

Given the size of the maps and the practice of having a few hundred yards of spacing between ships in combat to do such maneuvers, I don't think collisions will be a major issue.. unless people really don't pay attention where they're piloting their ship, or the spacing is a lot closer than we expect.

Otherwise somebody will need to step up to lead the fleet and do coordinated maneuvers... sounds like a nightmare in an open game.

Actually having someone in overall command sounds like a good idea.  I once read that the difference between a soldier and a warrior is that the soldiers work as a team.  I've also heard that the roman army of soldiers used to do quite well against the barbarion warriors.

Getting a random collection of players to accept this notion is going to be a bit of a challenge.

Its not that hard to perform an Evasive maneuver while at sea, now in WoWP in the Air on the other hand...

But in all seriousness; type "do a barrel role" into Google and see what happens

Theres always a idiot that crashes into you.

Hopefully we still start further apart then we do in WOT. Could you imagine what those kind of traffic jams would be like in this game?

Im not sure it would be any worse, on the ocean you dont have any "paths" as such to go by however it is allot harder to stop a ship than a tank

Just thinkin' out loud but TC could be seen as naval squadron, Clan War as fleet actions and pubs as.... well  pubs. I wonder what size they will limit to the TC equivalent? What would be the equivalent to a platoon?

I would prefer to have players perform evasive manouvers themselves than to have the ai do it for them, it would be a lot less predictable.

Ok judging my past World of games... any maneuvers are player done, the game will not do any for you, its safe to say

The Fire Control Computers of that era (Range Keepers) were mechanical, and it took several seconds to develop a "firing solution". The comon defensive practice was to steer for the last splash, since a change in Target Direction could cause the Rangekeeper to loose a solution for a few seconds. The US Rangekeepers had a black & white disk that would spin when the Solution was good. The Firing Officer would then pull the trigger above it to fire another salvo. The time of flight for projectiles is several times what WOT arti users experiance at max range.

I commented on smoke...which I then found in "suggestions"... so nevermind.

There will be a rudder lock according to KGB.  So, you can, say, hit D to turn right (hard right rudder), or you can press another key (can't quite remember if it was Q and E) to incrementally move and lock the rudder further to the left/right.  KGB called it "cruise control" for the rudder.

Here it is:

Quote

And am i correct if i say that you can "lock" your rudder in a certain position with Q and E? Just like R and F lock your throttle in WoT? If so, that opens up some interesting possibilities! Doing evasive actions while in gunnery mode!¶
Yes, you can lock the position of rudders with Q or E. - Posted 01 September 2012 - 01:26 PM

Given the inordinate amount of  impacts during start off of WOT, I fear we will be in for it when we move fro 50 ton tanks to 50k ton ships....

That is a humorous picture... A cruiser with a drunk or 7 year old "captain" trying to weave its way around a plethora of DDs all of whom are just trying to not get shoved under by a platoon of BBs who will turn for no man nor tide...

...and a CV waiting for everyone else to move out so her paint doesn't get scratched...
