Been playing the game for a few weeks; had a few suggestions/random thoughts that might improve the game:

1. Captain/Admiral Portraits ingame

I spend only a small portion of the game in port, and having spent the money for the "HSF" portrait package, I would like to have the ability to actually see the Captain/Admiral I place in charge of my ship while said ship is actually being played.

This decision has the added benefit of making the Captains a possible revenue pool for the game, as collabs completely aside, it would actually make people "want" to buy them, because they can actually see them in action, while the game is going on.  As of right now, these captains/admirals are identical to standard captains/admirals, which is understandable, as it avoids the whole "pay to win" mentality; but one could also make the added distinction that if historical captains/admirals were added and available, that they might have added/different benefits (which say might be randomly selected and added when a captain/commander/admiral reaches max rank, for the randomly named ingame commanders) based on their historical careers/schools of thought etc. In short, aside from strictly the ability to visually see the commanders, while actually piloting the ship; commanders could have additional traits added at career milestones, random for the random free commanders, preselected for historical commanders.  In short, the "Commander" section of the game could be more deeply explored and monetized.

2. Rotating Ladder Era

As of right now; all ladder battles occur in tier 8, 9, 10; and while this incentivies players to play for the later era ships; however, this ignores the early and mid era ships, and gives players no reason (aka rationalization) to purchase ships in these tiers, when they can't even use them competitively.  Obviously the worry is that splitting the ladder into tiers, would split the playerbase; meaning that, espically in off peak hours, that the ladder wouldn't have enough players and that wait times would either be excessive, or that players would get frustrated, and quit while waiting; further exacerbating the issue.   The solution, could be to have certain days, or times, devoted to other eras, having an early, mid, and late tier ladder, or mixing early and mid and mid and late (perhaps with bonuses if you opt in to playing a more obsolete ship in that setup).  This would give players who's favorite ships are lower tiered the ability to participate with them in ladder, while simultaneously incentivizing the purchase of lower tiered premium ships, as this would allow them to be played competitively, giving rationalization as to "why" players should purchase ships in these tiers, if they can't even use them competitively in ranked.

3. Battlesquadrons

As of right now; each player is limited to one ship, meaning that there isn't any "weight" towards picking ships which could be considered "inferior", in a given tier.   In that context, in competitve gameplay, such as in ladder or clan battle (if it occured) why would anyone pick, say a "Vitrius Unibis" Austrian BB, with it's horrible AA and other disadvantages, when you could just as easily pick one of the ships which are considered far superior at that tier?  One solution might be to give players more than one ship, with the option of forming battlesquadrons of multiple ships; with either the ships under the control of the player, or the player controlling one ship at a time, with the other ships under AI control, and switching to player control should the "flagship" be sunk before the other ships in the squadron are.    The squadrons, in turn, are organized under different subtypes such as "BB/DD", "BB/Crusier", "CV/Crusier escort" or (if light CV, or esort CV classes were ever introducted into the game) CV/CV escort, where the player essentially chooses between having additional aircover, and a surface escort, or having a larger strikegroup by having a CV and light CV battlesquadron.  The Battlesquadrons, in turn, could be organized, in turn, by "weight" where certain types of ship, or lower tier ships, have less "force weight" than others; for example based on said weight, one could have a squad of 2-3 older/less capable BBs, or a more modern BB with a crusier, etc.  This would mean that, in a given match, there would be more vessels to a given player, meaning that larger maps, with more ships, would be possible; it would also mean that maps of the same size could be played with fewer players; but these players, in turn, have agency over a larger portion of the fleet on the map at a given point, meaning that they get more control of the strategic aspect of a given game.  This is slightly different than the battlesquad concept, in and of itself, however.

FYI for number 2, ranked isn’t always high tire. While many seasons are T8 or higher they have had it lower before, and in fact next season bronze league is going to be T6 and T7 according to the dev blog.

Woof is right, the next season is going to be worse. Back into the 6's and 7's for bronze.

I actually do my best combat at 9 and 10 especially. Such as it is. When I get down too far in the tech tree, its pretty much sunk. So there is no incentative for me to try to get out of Bronze anymore. Or do I care. Thats been burned out months ago in the current ranked. Bronze I am and there I stay. Ive been gold first season and ranked out completely the old last season before that last year. None of that matters.

As far as captians, buy as many as you can. All of them to be precise. At some point they will be in short supply when you have the ships for them. Last year I was 20 ships now I am approaching 80 with almost 130 commanders. So the reserve slots count had to be expanded to accomodate the whole navy and continually added so that in the future 200 commanders can be sent to reserve to handle another game wide rework as was done the first week of patch 10.0 rework. Otherwise all commanders stay with their ships. They generally dont earn much until the first 5 get to 21 at some point this year. Once that happens then all of them will bootstrap the others on piles of ecxp points. And there will be many more 21's going into next year. I myself will pass on within a few years so the game account will pass into probate and one of the kids will gain access and play it.

The more the WG people try to drain player resources (Coal, coin, RP, steel etc) across the board and espeically points the easier it is for the player base to resist spending cash and just grind. It will take longer but not materially alter the game play. Throwing dollars at it will be a lipstick on a pig.

Steel is the bright spot. Ive been grinding it since June last year and its almost a year and sitting on 25K. It should be enough with coupon for either Slava or Ohio as first steel ship. Both do well in battle. I probably will lean towards the Slava as the game likes to run Russian Ships that can withstand battle with humans a little longer than most. Plymouth will be the second as it has some features not found in many game ships.

This already sort of exists in the game that certain captains have special bonuses.

1.  There's only so much room on the UI, and most players prefer having the UI as uncluttered as possible to see the battlefield, not looking at the mug of their captain.

2. There have been ranked seasons at tiers other than 8,9, or 10.  In deed, it'd be nice if this was seen more often, just for the sake of variety, if nothing else.

3. Why would a player choose to play the Viribus Unitis when there are better tier 5 BBs?  Maybe for the challenge.  Maybe because they just plain like the VU in spite of its challenges.  There are many reasons why players choose to play ships that are less than the very best.

1. There are special commanders with skill bonuses. For example, William Halsey (WWII Admiral) is in the game, he gives you faster turret traverse and reload when switching ammo. Getting achievements also activates more bonuses. And he gives gun tracers a different color.

For a picture in game, why? Got enough on my screen already, the focus of the game is the ship not the commander. And physically placing them on the model is not technically easy and can get you in trouble with the game rating.

2. Was really confused by ladder, but think you mean Ranked? That moves around from season to season. Right now it's 8-10 depending on league. But it's been anywhere from 5-10.

3. That would require a complete change to fundamental game mechanics. It's not a bad idea, but that's a completely different game. WOWS puts the player in charge of a single ship, that's the core concept of the game. And WG has been very clear that they want to minimize the multitasking the player has to do. They pulled the ability to control multiple plane squadrons from CVs (for a variety of reasons), no way it's happening for ships. And I don't think it should either. There are a lot of good ideas, but you can't have them all in one game. WOWS has you control one ship, controlling a squadron should be another game.

Aren’t  the Ohio and Slava research ships not steel ships . I think you need to do the research bureau to get these but maybe I’m wrong . I got the Ohio for 62k research points it was a tough grind but it’s a fun ship really good .

You would have to be very careful as to what ships you selected. (controlling multiple ships is kind of a non-starter, you don't have time in battle to split your attention)

An AI DD for example, is either going to YOLO ahead of you, or torp you if you get between it and the enemy.  Larger ships will collide with you and impede your maneuvering, or get stuck on islands.

The worst part though, is having a particular ship "tethered" to you, means that if you are an overly passive player, instead of your team having one ship not really contributing, there would be 2 or 3.

The idea is a good one, just for a different game.

To be fair, it's been done before, NavyField had "escorts" you could rent, low-level DDs or CLs. They were handy for extra AA, or dealing with the odd sneaky DD.

But, the gameplay was different, there was a different hierarchy, (ship power increased with size, not tiering) and with its simple damage model and 2D isometric/sprite-based graphics, there was no problem rendering a large number of extra ships. That raises another issue, with the game unlikely to be able to handle 24 or 36 ships per side, (assuming everyone had 1 or 2 extra ships) to do this, you'd have to reduce the teams to 4 or 6 actual players per team, which means that for a given number of players online, the servers would be handling 2-3x the amount of concurrent games they do now.

You are correct. Also, no coupon is applicable to RB content.

1. Be that as it may, as of right now, the option isn't even open.  I just spent money on the japanese loli captain pack, and I would like to have the option of having the adorable japanese lol's face visible in the UI; there's even room on the bottom left of the map between the ship and the ammo on the UI.   If you don't like it, that's fine; however, this is an easily monitizable part of the game that the company isn't currently utilizing to it's maximum potential.  Whether it's Japanese loli's, Halsey, Yamamoto, Nimitz, or even Godzilla/King Kong any number of other captians/admirals, both fictional and non-fiction, could be potentially monitized, or added in features/campaigns (perhaps with additional bonuses if they're on their "historical" ship, like Nagumo on Akagi (+50% to fires while changing weapons), these are all options that are open, that could generate revenue.... if players actually see a "reason" to buy them.  Stats are nice, but as of right now, these captains don't actually have a visible "presence" in the game.  If I'm going to "shell out" (heh) additional money for a collab, whether japanese lolis, Godzilla, King Kong, or even Darth Vader himself, I want to actually see them while I'm playing with them as ship captain.

2. Perhaps; but actual ladder events, such as "Russo-Japanese war" could be implimented, where say tier 1-4 Russian/Japanese ships have a few days in ladder, with perhaps rentals/discounts; with different rewards.

Basically make a week or two where the ladder battles revolve around a historical (or hypothetical war); for example a Russo-Japanese "ladder event" would have 1-2 weeks where all ladder battles are fought with tier 1-3 Russian and Japanese ships; basically a recognition of the ships in that conflict.  Another example would be a "Jutland" with England and Germany in WW1.  A hypothetical event could be WW1 where Italy remained true to it's alliance with Austria-Hungry, and the Italian and French Fleets squared off; with ladder battles in that event being ww1 era ships of France and Italy.  Discount/Free Rentals could be made available for higher tier ladder events, so players aren't excluded simply because they focused on a different national tech tree.

I'm still not getting it..  What are "ladder battles"?

Also, who the hell focuses on a single nation?  I work nearly ALL nations and all ship types.  I think that the only trees that I'm not working are the German CVs and the upcoming new German DDs.

Fun nation theme minievents as a way of having certain tech trees face each other; instead of the general mismash of ships that you find in games, both ladder and nonladder.

You are right. I was thinking of two steel and two RP ships.

I have a situation from time to time where figures get flipped in my head. I discard it and move on when I see the mistake. I forget the medical term offhand. Its something that I dont worry about too much anymore unless it it is in writing with a glaring error such as that.
