PSA New York Spotter Plane bug

The tier 5 US Battleship New York appears to have a bug with its spotter plane.

When set up for max range the New York has a main battery range of 20.9km.

The spotter plane indicates that it is the standard spotter plane, that gives +20% main battery range.

However, when you actually use the spotter plane in game, the main battery range only increased to a max of 21.3

This isn’t a bug. WG’s justification for this is that the combination of the ballistic properties of the shells and the maximum elevation of the guns of the New York-class limited their maximum range. The value you are observing is hard-coded into the game as the maximum range of the class (Texas has the same issue) to reflect this.

You can see the official explanation here:

That's [edited]...they should give the option to use fighter plane instead of spotter plane if that's the case...or change the "hard code" to let the consumable do what it says it's supposed to do (especially on Texas that was originally sold as an AA platform & like many others got neutered by the CV rework in that capacity...sure... it's still better than most but it wouldn't hurt to make it even better considering they're not giving it the range boost on the main battery as other ships get).

What's the point if a .4km range increase when you're expecting 4.1km range increase per the in game description of the consumable?

@Hapa_Fodder...can you send this alternate fighter consumable suggestion upline for these 2 ships?

Huh, I never knew that.

While WG's explanation makes sense, it's something that isn't immediately obvious to the user so WG should add some indication in game that the max range is capped below the mathematical range with spotter plane.

Spotter plane's pretty much a useless consumable on NY, especially if you equip Artillery Plotting mod1.

The range mess up is due to installing the spotter's cloaking device in backwards.

Instead of the plane being invisible as it flies on its mission, it's invisible on the turret launch rail.

This has caused a cascade of visibility issues, including the range problem.

I find it highly amusing whenever WG falls back on the excuse of being realistic.

So..... it's not a bug, it's a feature!

Except this doesn't apply to the Texas. Historical record shows that they could increase the firing range of the guns by flooding one side or the other and causing the ship to list. I demand this be made true of the Texas in game.
