New maps do not make money.

Sadly true.  OTOH, bored players (bored of all the old maps) may not spend as much money or just play some other game.  New maps help keep the game fresh and interesting for veteran players.

WG typically doesn't release many maps, and only released one last year. There's a chance that they are focusing on modeling the underwater aspect of existing maps, since they are dead set on subs being part of the game.

A new Ocean map is coming soon.

Instead of A-B-C, the caps will go C-B-A!

Played a MMO for 17 years that kept expanding the environment for players until the final year of its run.

IMHO, new maps that aren't just islands in different locations and environmental conditions that don't simply traverse the map in one direction, would be two of the best things WG could add to the game.

drift ice, sand bars, sheer cliffs, fog banks, etc.

True, the revenue from that is harder to measure than just pushing a new shiny out the door to the store. It makes it harder to justify the development effort to management.

Are you doing ranked?

The map rotation is smaller in ranked.

For what it's worth, I see weather conditions as a part of maps.

Not sure that I'd like sand bars, since I already hate running aground in water where it's impossible to tell how deep it really is.

There are already some sheer cliffs on maps such as Haven.

What gets me here is that there are already maps in the game that they could add to the regular rotation with little to no development work.  Riposte, for example.  Riposte would make for a very good mid tier map.  And there are already different battle mode versions of it (Domination and Epicenter, and maybe Standard, but not sure about that one).  And even if they wanted to use different cap locations for Domination and Standard, I don't see that as something that should be all that difficult, compared to developing a completely new map.

Also, they could sorta-kinda add a map to the rotation by increasing the usage of Ocean from "you're lucky to see it once a month" to a level similar to other high tier maps.  Or better yet, they could create two different versions of Ocean.  One for high tiers and one for mid tiers, where the only difference was the size of the map.  It'd also be nice if they added in some possible weather effects.
