Heh, called it on Marco. Now what remains is to see the currency of Vampire II. My guess is 2mil FXP to replace Smaland...

 

Also thank you for returning this practice as it was gone for some time.

Should I get the Marco Polo or Nikolay Kuznetsov?

I do NOT consider myself a BB main and really only play them in Coop or Operations. I have all the other legendary commanders and I understand Kuznetsov is supposed to be the best of them.

I agree that Vampire II will be Smaland's replacement as a FreeXP ship.

Austin being a steel ship was stated in the announcement for Somers.

Good to hear that Marco Polo will be coal. I share the suspicion of my forumites that Vampire will be for FXP, but secretly I'm hoping we're wrong and that she'll be for coal as well.

I would think that depends on how many premium ships you have Khafni. Because of the skill rework, I find myself more interested in captains and less on getting more premium ships. Besides my port is filled with the things, many that I rarely use or bring out just for snowflake events. I used 10k steel to get Kuznetsov and as soon as I hit 70k coal, will use the other 10k steel to get Cunningham. Really do not see a need to collect every premium ship that comes out in the game.

Kuznetsov lost some of his general utility with the commander rework, his one and only improved commander skill (Consumable Specialist -12.5% cooldown) is currently kind of a waste on Russian boats.
(Only applies to Reco/fighter/MBRB/TRB/DFAA)
His skill used to be EXTREMELY useful since he reduced the cooldown of all consumables.
But, his two talents are still useful in Randoms, +1 consumables if you can get First Blood is always nice. His other talent, the "Will for Victory" is fairly easy to activate, just reach 10% health, it even activates in Coop and Operations.

If the coal is burning a hole in your pocket and you have a few Russian boats to play him on, it's doubtful Marco Polo will be going anywhere soon.

I've got a gross (144) of premium ships in my port. I'm thinking he is a better option than another T9 BB. Thanks for the validation!

I knew his skills were nerfed a bit with the rework and yet his talents remain good ones. The coal is burning a hole in my pocket and with 23 Russian Premiums (I think I have a CV hiding in there somewhere, maybe...:Smile_hiding:) Kuznetsov will get a good workout. Thanks, Admiral!

So have the stats on Austin been finalized yet? Do the guns still have a pitifully slow rate of fire until you hit that reload booster and they turn insane?

It matters little what the stats are now; it matters much what they are on the day after release.

Oklahoma was proof that changes can be made almost at the last second. And when that happens, over-eager buyers who ride the refresh button on the premium shop on release day can end up wailing in the outer darkness when they finally get their new baby into port.

No ship gets pulled that quickly. Unless you're getting a ship purely for the historical value (in which case the in-battle performance likely isn't of primary concern*), it's ALWAYS worth waiting a short time for some post-release reviews to emerge.

 

* = I'm not talking about hoping that a ship which was great in real life is great in the game; of course we all hope it will be and are disappointed if it's not. I'm talking about those players who buy a historic ship solely to have it in their ports.

Now what we need, what everyone is itching to know, is what currency Vampire 2 will require. I have a million FXP burning a hole in my pocket and my eye on the Friesland, but I would look really stupid if I bought her right now, only to be told very soon after that Vamp 2 is a 2M FXP ship.

@Hapa_Fodder, with all due respect, the Dev and Marketing people need to be reminded in no uncertain terms that part of the reason for resource hoarding is uncertainty regarding ship release or currency announcements.

I already have well over 300K, and this is after picking up Neustrashimy, Flint and DOY at Christmas (the first two of those at their fully inflated no-coupon price).

If you spam More Resources, you can actually accumulate coal remarkably quickly.
