Smaller ships=Smaller girl size.

If not wrong it has to do with Kancolle making it's DD characters be lolis, thus lolibote.

Fu Shun isn't THAT bad...I mean there are a LOT worse Kancolle and Azur Lane shipgirls. For the weak of heart I'll try to hide it inside a spoiler box.

The whole thing started from Kantai Collection, which had been out several years before WoWS went Live.  As warheart1992 said, the smaller the ship type (DD, Cruiser, BB / CV), the smaller depiction.

This is one from years ago.  From front to back they're:  Nagato, Mutsu, Shimakaze, Yukikaze, Yamato

Azur Lane came out years later and follows a similar pattern.  Usually.

The three AL starter DDs.

It's a slippery slope once you get started. As a on and off anime/manga fan things can get really weird, real quick.

Reading Made in Abyss, and how can I put it, the mangaka is treading some lines with certain depictions...

I must admit I have never heard DDs referred to by that term in all the years I've been playing WOWS and reading the Forums.  Certainly, I've seen it used by those players who feel threatened by Anime, but it was never applied to a single ship type.

 

May I ask the OP where they heard Destroyers being referred to in that way in WOWS?

Here's an example: Miss Maus uses the term "lolibote" in her own ship reviews, referring to destroyers, time to time. I'm guessing that's where OP picked up the term.

Yeah, I had to look that one up myself, no way on earth am I posting that here, but I have the AL wiki page in my quick links for when I feel the need to figure out what ship someone is referencing when they use some of the images for AL. I tend more to the KC side of things, but then again my computer is named Kaga and the background picture is KC Kaga and AL Kaga standing roughly back to back. I'm not much of a loliboat fan, I prefer the BBs and CVs with some CL's and CA's anyway.

Hmm.  I always took that to be a LOL - I - bote, as in a ship not to be taken seriously, or having abilities that were ridiculous.  I never took it to mean anyone was calling ships underage in WOWS.  And, I don't think DDs were singled out as the only ones to be considered that.

 

Learn something new every day.  I guess that means all non-DDs with anime characters are completely free of any such consideration.

Ech much like Captain Harlock above me, I am NOT risking posting the pic of AL Vampire on this forum...I swear just by looking it up I'm now probably on some watchlist somewhere at Interpol/Scotland Yard.
