Who here will be playing them. I know I like the idea of the cruiser, being somewhat a jack of all trades. As I understand them, they are designed to kill DDs, protect CVs and support BBs when needed. I personally think this means they equate to the mediums of WoT, but a little more flexible. I like mediums in WoT and always liked the concept of a cruiser, so I am looking forward to playing them. I want to hear from you guys what you think cruisers roles are going to be and how they will fit into the dynamic of combat in WoWS.

Respond as you see fit!

I plan on playing Heavy Cruisers as my main type of ship. Cruisers will be the most flexible ships ingame, having high speeds, decent AA armament and big enough guns to deal with just about any threat short of a BB or BC.

You play any mediums in WoT?

I am currently working my way up the American medium line. I have an M26 Pershing and I keep my M4A3E2 and M4 Sherman around just for the fun of playing them,.

Having a blast on the German mediums right now. Panther 2 and Sixth Sense is a match made in heaven. Can't drive her alot because of costs though. I really hate losing money.

Which cruiser line you planning on going? I really am looking forward to the German and US cruisers.

Prinz Eugen, Maya, Duetchland, and Alaska are ones I eventually want to play.

Wow, those are pretty much the exact ones I want. :Smile_amazed:

Wanna platoon when the feature is implemented?

Woohoo! I suspect I will end up with all ten US cruisers in my dock, since I love almost all of them ones I know historically. I think I will go to the USS Salem this summer. Gotta see that ship.

Brooklyns and Atlantas for the good old burying people under the weight of your rapid fire.

I want to try all the different ship classes mostly want a BB. I'm hoping I'll like cruisers being more versatile and I'm sure to be the worst DD captain ever   but i still wanna try them all.

I might chase up a cruiser tree just to play a few of the light cruiser designs. I'm not sure if I'd do that before or after carriers, but both will come long after battleships/BCs.

I coincidentally just finished putting up a post about the USS St. Louis light cruiser.  I hadn't put much thought into playing light cruisers but after reading up on them I'm really looking forward to trying them out.  I'll try everything though, I'm sure of it.

I always enjoyed Cruisers in the Battlestations series, and I really enjoy medium tanks in WoT, so I'm hoping I'll enjoy Cruisers in WoWs. I particularly look forward to the rapid fire bombardments I'll be able to subject people to in some of the light cruisers

Light Cruisers and Heavy Cruisers are two different beasts, and have two completely different roles on the battlefield. I like to split them into three groups, which I call Light, Cruiser, and Heavy.

Light cruisers are scouts, destroyer leaders, and raiders. They specialize in speed, and their communications suites are as important as their guns.

Generic cruisers can handle almost any role, but tend more often to be bullies hunting down and killing damaged ships or smaller DD's and cruisers. They tend to either have a lot of guns or big guns, but not a lot in the way of armor. Brooklyn and Mogami are examples of this type.

Heavy cruisers tend to be purpose-built for battle, with big guns, armor, and the ability to take a bit of punishment. They shadow the big boys and keep the small stuff away from them, grind down an enemy's ability to defend itself, and cover a retreating heavy unit or intercept flanking units.

The USN gave up torpedoes on cruisers in the 30's fearing their volatile nature would cause them to explode on deck, doing more damage to the cruiser than the enemy. Both the RN and IJN kept them. The USN was later to regret the decision, because their smaller, rapid fire 6" guns weren't effective against armored units, and often faced them in night battles at ranges where torps would have been effective. After the war it was determined that a cruiser armed with 8x8" guns was more effective than one armed with 12x6" guns due to the increased range and penetration capacity. Many enemy cruisers were armored to handle 5"-6" shells, or were compartmentalized sufficiently that many many hits below the waterline were required to sink the ship.

I happen to be working on a piece about Cruisers Tactics at the moment, but it's not yet ready for posting.

Us cruiser captain here.

Better AA then the japs, and thinking of playing more of a support cruiser then all attack.

But if you wanna be the attacker with firepower, I suspect the japanese cruisers are better. More guns and torps with useless AA

Yeah the long lance as long as WG model it right instead of just going 'its a normal torpedo!' and make it identical to the USN/RN/KM's Torps will be a game changer if you lob enough of them at the enemy lines, but hit them and BAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOM!

I just fell in love with the looks and the raw firepower of the japanese heavy cruisers, lots of 8" inchers and Long lances.

Oh the IJN's ships were lookers but i'd rather have the multi-role-ness (yes that is now a word) of the USNs ships and the jack of all trades of the RNs rather than ATTACK AT THE EXPENSE OF ALMOST EVERYTHING ELSE! of the IJN.

US Battlecruisers and UK Battlecruisers, and then US Cruisers here as well.  Alaska is my favorite (obviously), but I'll be interested to play the various types and see what their flavor brings to the game.  :)

I think cruisers may require the best out of players to be successful so I will absolutely be playing them.

A word of advice: the word 'Japs' is seen in some quarters as a racist and/or derogatory term. To be on the safe side of moderation I suggest you type out the full word 'Japanese'.
