Not to happy with the cost of 450 doubledoons to redo the captain skills.  They did not give us enough time to try what works best.  I have over 100 ships and will not spend a cent on this. in fact after 5 years of playing  I think of all the time I have invested in this game I am not sure it is a good time to quit.

You should have reset them with the reset all option that we were given and then individually reset any you had tested prior to the patch.

So the patch note or WG notified all the player about the reset on 18/1/21 ..... You have nearly a month to reset ... WG then also gave a link with 1 button to reset ALL your captains in your account

YET, you not satisfy because nearly a month is not enough time for YOU to reset your 100'ish captain.

 

 

I had over 300 ships, but i managed to reset them all.

I wonder if we'll have a free captain respec for the next clan battles season.  WG did away with it with the inclusion of CVs into CBs, but no carriers for the upcoming T9 season.  If the rationale in the past was to spec out of AA, seems they should do so again.

They gave you an entire month of free re-specs. Twice a month they give you the Public Test Server, which lets you try stuff out for free in a separate environment where respec costs aren't an issue. And as @ObiphanKenobi already said, you had nearly a month of having the global reset button to zero them all out and work it out at leisure.

How much more did you want?

I also have over 100 ships, and not only was able to reset them all through the one-time reset-all button, but I got in enough battles to get a good idea of what skills I wanted to take for my preferred tactics.  My biggest decisions were in what commander to put into what ships, and that did take most of the period in question, but I am confident that was also completed in the time given.  

 

And that was with only two or three battles a day when I could get on.

 

The point wasn't to give players time to check every single possible combo to find the min-max for every ship they own and determine the new meta for each.  It was to give players time to play in enough ships and commanders to understand the new skills, which it did.  In addition, there have been several posts and videos by CCs giving players their own opinions and analysis of the new skills to help.

 

I'm sorry, but the only thing I can come up with here is that the OP chose poorly.

Wasn't it 190,000 elite captain XP (1000 skill point) or 475 Doubloons (25/ skill point) to reset the skills 19pt captain before? 

I assume it's 210,000 elite captain XP for a 21 skill point captain or 525/skill point.

Alongside 500 doubloons to retrain the ship specialisation (or 200,000 credits for half XP). IIRC with 0.10.1 it's still 500 db but the half cost is rolled in so free?

So it costs a bit more for a 21 skill point captain but not much has actually changed?

5% elite captain XP vs grinding 500,000 then 700,000 commander XP isn't great IMO but it is a thing.

But we could literally reset all our captain skills and also move over captain ship specialisation for free from rarely ships (if you timed it right just before 0.10.0). Along with very easy missions giving us doubloons which I have never seen before.

 

I mean I agree these quality of life, penny (dollar?) pinching microtransactions are annoying and I personally think they should at least be a feature of a Premium Account if not outright free. 
But I also *don't* run the finance department of a huge online game so.. vote with your wallet.

They didn't give you enough time.

I have over 100 ships, and had no issues.

Of course, I didn't experiment with every single ship, I reset all my ships, (manually even) then experimented with a number of representative ships to gauge the efficacy of the skills, and will add skills to the other captains as I play the ships.

You've simply not used the time you were given wisely.

My only issue with the way this was done is; I GOT SPOILED, it was really fun resetting and trying out new skill combinations without having to be concerned with the cost; thanks WarGaming! 

It would be nice if WG would do this sort of thing once a year, like for the whole month of December. :Smile_smile:

I still haven't set up my captains, I'm waiting on ??  Really, I reset them all, even changed some of my ship upgrades if I thought I might want something different.  For instance after watching some videos, I changed out the PEF upgrades.  At some point I'll probably set up the captain skills, but I am not really in a hurry at the moment. Almost 170 ships to figure out, I'm not ready to cookie cutter the skills just yet.

IMHO there's no reason to hurry since you don't need to spec a Commander until you want to use it and the longer you wait the more information on skills and skill combinations you are likely to have which most often leads to better decisions.

You were expecting WG to rebalance the mess they've made and provide the reset until the meta settles? This is WG. They will never do the right thing.

You know what's funny I played a few games with a no captain skills or only 3 points by accident . I really didn't even know until I saw the screen at the end of the match . I wonder how much all this captain build stuff really matters ?

I did a similar thing ... purposely played many ships with no skills set.  Aside from Last Stand on DDs I didn't feel overly handicapped.  I may just continue that way

I've only set skills on 1 T8 I'm grinding ...

It depends on just what your are specing into some matter more for some ships/types than others, I think so anyway.  It also matters if you are playing random, ranked or coop for instance.  Coop would be much more forgiving of missing captain skills.

One of the things I think WG made mention of many moons ago was that they wanted commander's skills to matter, but not be the determining factor in gameplay.  Sure, they can give an advantage, but the decisions of the player and the capabilities of the ship matter more.  A good player without a commander on their ship will almost always fight better than a bad player with a maxed-skill commander on their ship.

 

After all, Survival Expert on your DD is very nice to have, but it won't save you when you sit in your smoke and a salvo of torpedoes comes calling.  On the other hand, a player who takes Survival Expert may very well have the HPs to save their ship in a close duel with another DD that doesn't have it.

I have almost 400 ships, and over 600 Captains. With the "reset button" made to work only once for a global reset, I got caught with dozens of Captains in testing builds when the free resets were removed. 

One month is not enough time to test out the new skills. For a game changing rework like this, more time is needed.

I did reset all my commanders at the beginning with the 'do all' button.

Since then, I specced all of my TX BB commanders.

I specced all of my DD commanders (I am grinding 8 lines at the moment) up to 10 points (the mandatory basic ones).

I haven't specced a single point in any CA commander.  I play them once in a while with no skills, when I need to get some tasks done.

No rush.  I got plenty of time.

^ This.  I had fun trying out new builds, once I could get away from the wiki and actually play for a couple of days.

I really wish they'd have extended the free resets through 0.10.1.

I am waiting on the final not going to change anything from WG, before I start to assign commander skills.

I have 8 - 21 pointers sitting on ships without assigned skills just earning E -EXP.

I have 12 - 19 pointers sitting on ships earning 5% E-EXP.

I am looking around July of 2021 I may start assigning skills.
