(Yet another...) Scenario Battles / Operations thread. This time a simple suggestion.

Would it be possible to just remove "Defense of Naval Station Newport" from the Operation of the Week rotation? Not removing it entirely, but leaving it as a separate selection for divisions that want to play it (just as the other remaining Ops are besides the one that's in the current rotation).

With random players, it's just an exercise in frustration. Meanwhile the Operations chat channel is filled with "Narai plz" or "Anything but Newport".

That would leave Aegis, Killer Whale, Raptor Rescue and Narai as the 4 in rotation. Newport lovers can still call up their buddies to play it but the rest of the general population could just skip it and keep playing week after week. Right now, there's an obvious lull during Newport week, myself included.

What do the players think? Maybe a bit of discussion before we tag any admins?

WG leaves it in the rotation to discourage Operations players obviously, or else they would come up with a better way to make teams for other operations. Their system really sucks. It's the worst, there were better systems back in the 1990's.

Careful, they may very well just flat out remove it and use that as an excuse: "They don't want this one, this means they don't want the "retired" or new ones either.".  Leave it in rotation.  Besides, I've only had 2 losses since it came around, and I generally do at least 3 runs a day.  Today I had 2 5s matches, one with TE Chieve, and one 3s; rando teams.  Yesterday I had a 5s, 4s and 2s win.  Day before was 2 5s (one TE chieve), 1 1s and a loss, with the day prior being the only "rough" day.  2 3s, 1 2s and a loss.  All this solo.  Only 2 of the 5s wins so far had a divi of 2.  All other 5's were complete rando.  Personally I am find with Newport, but then again, I don't run any other class in it (solo) than Carrier, and Ark Royal at that. :Smile_playing:

No.Not enough ops already and you want to remove ops?? Just delete the thread please, don't play into Weegee's hand.learn to play it.

You did read what I said, didn't you? Remove from rotation, not remove entirely. Playing it isn't an issue for me, playing it with 6 others that don't know how to play it is. And before you tell me to div up, that's the problem. It's hard enough these days to regularly get Narai divs going in the Operations chat channel. Mention Newport and people laugh at you.

I don't think that Newport "lovers" exists. Nevertheless I consider that it has educational value. The problem is that the rewards are nowhere near at the level of the challenge.  But, indeed I may have misread something in your post.

2 losses? You mean since it came around this week, right?

CV, I've never played it there but if you do well in it, that's the only ship that could really carry, I suppose. You can cover all positions at least and generally don't have to worry about getting focused (until it's too late).

There's also this side of it. Imagine the random that says "hey, let's give these Operations a go" and pops in during Newport week. After getting wrecked multiple times and seeing "Defeat" on the after action reports, might he not consider Ops not a very fun place to play? In just about any other, with the exception of Raptor he might notice that it's only himself that was the problem as the team went on to win without him.

No not really. Other than KW where indeed Cv's can help greatly and to some extent carry, in all other ops my findings are  exactly the opposite.

@xamdam  Yep, only two losses since it came up this week.  The two losses I suffered in Newport were primarily due to one or more getting themselves whacked (torpedoed in both cases) during the Tutorial Phase (1st Wave), with a couple charging the 2nd Wave only to either be whacked by the Kai/Ishi and/or focused by the 3rd Wave because they charged out on the 2nd and got messed up.  Personally, I couldn't help but laugh. :Smile_veryhappy:

Good games, congrats! We didn't meet yet, I suppose :). I see ops as a team game and effort and many times Cv players simply don't understand that and don't act on it. Trying to attack cruisers with torps, not providing sometimes crucial spotting, playing for racking up damage vs attacking important targets, this is how the majority of Cv players  (who'd I met) play and frankly, it is wrong. I don't say that there are no exceptions, but that's the solid majority. Many times we lost because Cv players made some ships turn, going in wrong direction, ergo delaying the fulfilment of secondary objectives. Every ship in the game could be played well, because ultimately depends on how the player utilise its potential.Nonetheless i stick with what I said earlier which was that KW is the operation in which Cv's could do most for the team.

@Bandi73  I know exactly where you are coming from, which is why the primary class I run in Op's is CV.  But to say a Carrier is incapable of carrying in any of the Op's is dead wrong, that is what I was pointing out.  If anything, KW is the only Op where a Carrier cannot truly carry due to the Retreat Zone.  Seen that too many times. :Smile_facepalm: Something to note: A vast majority of the Tactical Expertise Achievement runs I've had (only 263 though) involved a Carrier; either someone who knew what they were doing in one, or myself running one. :Smile_playing:

 

It's as you say, the difference between a good Carrier and a "okay-ish" one (or worse) is like Night and Day.  Now, I'm not going to say I'm perfect when I do run one.  Every now and again I do derp... bangheadz.gif  Usually because I switch to a different Carrier and for some reason or another, I treat her like a Carrier I usually use.  Lowen for example: her torpedoes are so bloody slow.  I swear, I could have someone row out to one and push it to make it go faster...:Smile_hiding:

To avoid certain ops of the week like Newport there's a discord server that exist to avoid such things like that and play around other ops for the sake of consistency and helping each other out in terms of grinding to getting 5 stars in ops that someone did not get yet.

My definition of carrying is having a decisive contribution, not necessarily being the last ship alive. And yeah, metoo sadly. But earning the Tactical expertise has little to do with the carrier per se. It is about the team.

Actually it is. And that's why ops is the perfect place to recognise them. Just attacking mindlessly vs attacking knowing what, where and how it is exactly that night and day difference. Granted, knowing the operation is a big plus, but that's exactly why operations are very good, teaching people how to utilise their ships strengths and 'hide' their weaknesses. In ops ships become tools.

Well, we are all humans and make mistakes. For example in Leander I always go out and ambush the waves (1,2) from sides, then falling back for the third, still ambushing them. Sometimes I potato and manage to got killed in the process :). But I do that only in that ship.

Thanks for the link but... That does little to change the problem, especially for those that don't use voice.



I guess I expected, based on what I see in the in-game Operations Channel, a bit more support for this idea. Perhaps it's the general public that does not visit the forums. Oh well, carry on then.

Don't need to have a mic, just being able to listen in is enough or just by being in an ops group is enough since there is in-game chat.
