it's odd that you can't find ASW planes on aircraft carriers but you can find them on battleships

Yes because CVs need to be an excellent counter to every surface and subsurface ship in the game.

there should be.  You should be able to pick between bombs and DB.

The problem last time was there was basiclly no counter to the sub

I’d have thought one annoyance going to pester another annoyance would make people happy?

(Just gimme Guadalcanal and some ASW Avengers.)

Subs are already a huge buff to CVs since they severely limit the amount of AA in the match. I don't believe CVs need to be able to kill subs too in addition.

Probably gonna happen anyway though.

Considering you're probably correct, that it's going to happen anyway, perhaps the answer would be in a trade off? Maybe a CV can either carrier rockets or depth charges so that it has to pick between countering subs or destroyers but not both? Just a thought. Depend on the nation perhaps it would be a different armament that would have to be switched out as well, sort of like picking between fighter or spotter on other ships.

Yes but with a reload time of like 2 minutes or something. I don't want to be able to everything, cause then your team wants you to do everything outside of the one thing they want to do.

If the "pick" part is done in port then i am with you. CV can sac bomber for a classic you don't even know if it appears in the next game. Just like AA.

Hey how about this. CVs still get plane generators but have limited arnament of depth charges. CVs retain the rocket plane, torpedo, and dive bomber, but torpedo bombers and dive bombers can switch their armament to depth charges, which takes 45 seconds to change.

planes without armament gain use of machines guns to a strafe ships

Not like they were blasting subs right and left, but their slow speed made it easy to circle around and keep subs spotted; which made them have to choose between capping and going unspotted.

The carpet bombs tended to be more effective than regular bombers, and about equal to rocket attacks. Rockets tended to do more damage, but the carpet bombers being generally slower, and a drop with more weapons covering a bigger area gave more certainty of hits.

During the previous submarine testing events, I played all ship types, including submarines and CV's.

1.  All CV ordnance is effective upon a submarine, provided the submarine is close enough to the surface or is surfaced.
2.  Keeping your team's ASW assets (Submarines, DD's and some Cruisers) afloat and un-molested allows them to perform ASW duties in pursuit of a team win.
3.  In light of #2, above, teamwork is encouraged.
4.  Submarines that stay submerged below a certain depth cannot capture an area.  Also, their mini-map information ceases to be current after a while.
So, there are incentives, in the form of map objectives and team success, which nudge submarines to come to periscope depth to refresh their situational awareness & recharge batteries and risk exposure to detection/attack.

No, but it’d be nice if Zeppelin got her hydro back.

I didn't know Graf Zeppelin had hydro.
Must have been before I welcomed her to my port?

Game balance requiere they don't but it is really stupid if they don't... well, we already play in a world where ships outspot aircrafts... :fish_palm:

Pre-0.8.0

It (along with DCP) was considered “too complex” for players to use while flying planes.

Yeah.  I was playing RTS CV's.
Didn't have the Graf Zeppelin, or any other premium CV back then.
Thanks for the information.
I still miss my Zuiho.

One can only hope that subs stay off the live server for a good while longer. Having two unbalanced classes on the server at once is unlikely to make play any 'better'.

No, I don't have an unreasoning hatred of CV's. My dislike for them stems from the fact that they are to date,  inherently unbalancing in a surface warfare game based on concealment.

ASW for the german cv line but the other cv lines have tools to interact with a sub that is on the surface.  I would like the o2 mechanic to return to subs but not as oppressive as the first iteration to force subs to the surface at some point
