River Class Frigates

In the US, the River class was built--mostly for British and Commonwealth use--as the Tacoma class patrol frigate.  Over half the production of 96 (out of 100 ordered), ended up in British or Russian service.  Ones in US service had Coast Guard crews as it would seem the Navy itself felt it was beneath them to man such a marginal vessel as they saw it.  The USN also wasn't happy with the idea of building a warship to commercial standards.

Post war at least 13 navies were still using some of these in service, Thailand being the last to retire theirs in 2000.
