What is everyone's opinion on drop rates for the Lunar New Year "Journey to the West" containers? I've heard the drop rates were really good, and I have seen some results suggesting its a better bang for my buck to gamble (which is absolutley terrible and against every personal philosophy that I have). I've seen all 4 rolled in 25 crates I'm curious if that's an oddity or common

I've been chasing Baije forever and would like the Alsace clone. I'd be willing to do full 20k price for both so thats ~40 boxes.

You should only buy ANY lootcrates ever if you are willing to take the chance that you absolutely will not get what you want and will be happy if you get nothing but flags and camos, for example. If you want the ship, buy the ship.

Ordinarily this would be true, but Bajie is not longer in the Premium Shop or the Armory, so the only option is random containers.  But @HamAndCheez is absolutely correct, don't buy them if you aren't going to be satisfied with the consolation swag. The only other option would be to wait and see if Bajie re-appears in the Premium Shop or Armory (you probably have about 2 weeks, since the Lunar New Year doesn't start until Feb 12.)

I gambled $100 for 25 of them, I got all 4 ships, 0 coal and 5k dubs and camo's. YMMV. Good luck.

edit to add: forgot the 16 days premium time, but I have over 1k days, so easy to forget.

Very good point. I was initially hopeful since it seems WG has started selling a lot of ships for dubs immediately on their release. I may put it off and see what next Friday holds

You can get her directly for money (and also dubs, I think), but only as part of a VERY expensive package...

...and I'm not sure how many people are both willing and able to pay that much. (NB: Price displayed is in Canadian $).

The usual rule holds - don't spam boxes if you're not prepared to receive only the least valuable thing you can possibly get. Even if you knew the chance of getting a ship is 1 in X, buying X number of crates WILL NOT guarantee the ship.

Bought 26 or so, got Sanzhang, about 24 days premium, 1,250 doubloons, some coal, and a raftload of camos.

EDIT: Bought a 27th crate, opened Wujing.

I tried for Bajie in the LNY crates last year.  I also read how people were getting all the ships in 25 crates.  I got 0 ships in 50 crates so your luck may vary.

So....

if a ship drops - 50% chance of BB, 25% chance CV, 25% Cruiser, 0% chance DD

I'll think about it.

Time to read the LWM reviews.  Grats to those that got a deal   :Smile_great:

THAT'S MORE THAN THE ARP BUNDLE, WHAT?!?!?!

Regarding the ARP Collaboration. - General Game Discussion - World of Warships official forum

I mean Ok, so the ARP bundle doesn't have as many ships, but STILL, that's pretty darn expensive.

Not sure (& not making any accusations about WG) but the reason odds aren't shown may be because they vary...

In Vegas it was a known fact (at least back in the day...not sure if regulations changed since 30 years ago) that they program machines towards the front of the casinos to pay out more to draw the public in w/all the bells & whistles.

The dorp rate may be set to have more drops early to draw people in (due to threads exclaiming their "luck") & have the drops rarer later on.

Again..not saying that is happening..just that it is possible how it is set up.

Edit: Not sure if you seen the purchase option in post #7... it's steep but takes the "gamble" out of the equation.

There are TWO Tier 8 and TWO Tier 9 premiums in that, plus four 10 point captains (nominally 1500 dubs each) and a lot of filler. If I were in WG's shoes I'd consider pushing out a basic ships package, but IIRC this event is primarily pitched at people in Asia with LNY "red packet" money at their disposal and a different sense of what they're willing to throw at pixels.

Doing a buy of the 25 - do this particular one every year.   Here's the PbP of it - beer is involved, thankfully.

I have the Bajie &  the Wukong with their commanders.  I also know that if I happen to get those drop, I'll never know as the system will just instantly pick something else among the options.

Hoping for the 2 other ships but will take a load of dubs too.   Lowest expectation would be 25 X 8 days of premium

1.   12.5K coal -  OK with that as I wouldn't mind working my way closer to the Yoshino, just for the Snowflake crates  - started with 64K.

2.   1250 dubs - fair enough

3.   5 x Spring Sky - useful in certain quests so I'll take that

4.    8 days of premium - that takes me to 459 days - never seems to drop though

5.   5 x Spring Sky - sure, why not

6.   Sanzang with the commander - YES! :cap_horn:

7.   5 x Asian Lantern - so had a peak now at these camos & I entered this with 0 Spring Sky, 15 Asian Lantern & 1 Mosaic -  Will use up the Asian Lanterns now taking a few commanders a bit higher so don't mind this

8.  10 x Type 59  - so I had 140 of these & 150 of the Lunar Warrior - I think I need to play more :fish_palm:

9.    8 days of premium -  I would not be surprised if I ended up getting this 5 or more times. :Smile_sceptic:

10.  10 x Type 59 - think I should just put that on a few of my ships

11.   10 x Type 59 - a trend

12.   20 x Lunar Warrior - insert obligatory "you gotta accept this as the price of trying to get stuff" statement  here - I like the Camo actually

13.  20 x Lunar Warrior -  Pausing here for a moment

So, realistically, just over half way through, is this crate haul worth half what I spent?  Well the one ship + the dubs + the coal + the premium camos say yes.

I  would rank my haul in terms of what I think of them as

Wants

  1. ship  x 1
  2. Dubs  x 1
  3. Premium Camo x 3
  4. Dubs x 1

********

Can live withs but not  priority

  1. Non premium Camo  x 5
  2. Premium Days x 2

So out of 13,  I got 6 that I want   - will see if that trend continues

Now, onto the last 12

14. 5 x Spring Sky - hmm, very much the Free XP bend to these so far, could do with a Mosaic

15. 5 X Asian Lantern  - cool..cool.

16.  Wujing  with Commander  :Smile_izmena:  - with this, I consider this haul a success.  Those two ships alone are worth the price.  I did a 25 pack last year and get the 2 so happy to have this happen again.  Not that everything else afterwards be gravy but this is what I was hoping for.

17.  10 x Type59 -  well it beats premium

18.  10 x Type 59  - I have a teletubbie saying going through my head right now - AGAIN...AGAIN!!!

19. 1250 Dubs - That's better

20.   10 x Type59 - sure

On to the last 5

21. 8 days of premium - Sigh

22.  20 x Lunar Warrior - and the balance of "Oh I want that!"  vs. "Sure but kinda meh"  goes below the line again - not that I'm really complaining as I got the 2 ships

23. 8 days of premium -  got this 4 times now, fully expecting at least once more out of the last 2

24. 20 x Lunar Warrior - Ok, officially tipped into mostly meh apart from the ships territory

Last one.....

25.  20 Lunar Warrior  - out with a bit of a whimper

So, the haul

2 ships with commanders  (2 crates)

2500 Dubs (2)

12.5K coal (first crate but nothing after)  (1)

15 Spring Sky Camo (3)

10 Asian Lantern Camo (2)

0 Mosaic Camo  (?)

60 Type 59  (6)

100 Lunar Warrior  (5)

32 days premium  (4)

All in all, if I hadn't gotten both the ships and even 1 of those 2 crates had been something like coal or Dubs, I'd be acknowledging I lost out in the lucky dip.

But, I got the 2 ships and that was enough for me. :etc_red_button:

As usual

YMMV

Don't spend what you can't afford

Don't spend thinking you will get anything but the worst possible outcome because it is as likely as the best.

I wasn't that lucky, I purchased 25 containers and only got Wujing at around 18th.

At least I got the T9 one I guess.

Welp, but I do recieve about 2.5k gold, about 20 days of premium and 37.5k coal... not really sure I like the result, as I am pretty much here for the ships...

Especially considering I already own Wukong and Bajie.

Update: I just whaled more containers with the gold I got from the 25 containers.

Obtained Sanzang at the 3rd container I opened.

So, basically, I got Wujing at around 18th container, and Sanzang at 28th container.

The total cost is a bit less than directly purchase both ships, and get significant amount of other resources....

Maybe it wasn't that bad? Not sure if it is possible to whale 25+ containers and get no ship.

I just purcahsed more containers after reading your post... overall, it ended up with:

I get Wujing at around 18th container, and Sanzang at 28th container.

Since I got about 2.5k gold from the initial 25 containers, so I basically spend a little bit more than the price of 25 containers, while the overall cost is a little bit lower than directly purchase those 2 ships.

I won't say my purchase really worth it if I only get 1 T9 ship out of 25 containers... so to make it worth it is to keep whaling?:cap_book: LOL.

If WG would list the drop rate and all that details....

It wouldn't help. If you listed the Wujing as being a 1:50 chance to drop, some idiot would be sure to go buy fifty, fail to get her, and then come back here to deliver a spittle-flecked rant which would make that infamous scene from Downfall look like a subdued bible reading.

Well, I can honestly say that this has been a horrible experience - 25 containers and I netted 0 ships.  I know - don't gamble unless you are going to be happy with the worst draws, but really?

  • 10 Type 59s x 5
  • 5 Asian lanterns x 2
  • 5 Spring Sky x 1
  • 20 Lunar Warrior x 12
  • 8 Days Premium x 3
  • 12.5K Coal x 2

No doubloons, no ships...  :(   No one to blame but myself...

PS:  and I don't own any of the 4 ships.

I am an unabashed whale, of the highest, most ignorant, order. I haven't always been the biggest fan of WGing, but I like to flatter myself by thinking that I have always been truthful, consequences be damned. Anecdotally, the "Journey to the west" container drops have been better than expected for me. That is not to say that they will be better than expected for you, but it is to say, that my experience with these particular containers, has been more positive than anticipated, and has demonstrated a significant value I have not received from WGing in some time.

Please take this entirely with a grain of salt. Your results may, and probably will, differ. That said, I give credit where credit is due, and at least with respect to my personal experiences with these particular containers, credit IS due.

Anecdotal; limited sample set; possibly entirely coincidental. That said, at least for me, better than expected. Kudos WGing.

So it is possible to get 0 ships from the 25 containers... wth, even gacha games has some sort of floor system that garantees a good drop given certain amount of rolls...

You didn't even tell what you received. Of course don't if you don't want to, but it seems like you forgot, maybe?

I didn't forget, I judiciously neglected to report my results. My results were so good, I intentionally omitted them, because I didn't want to imprudently incentivize people to take greater risks than they otherwise would.
