Mysore, Munchen, or Scharnhorst? A Question for Operations Use

Mysore, Munchen, or Scharnhorst? A Question for Operations Use

  1. 1. I have 7600 doubloons in stock, which can get Mysore (5800) or Munchen and Scharnhorst with a coupon. For T6 and 7 premiums, I look at them for potential in operations before potential in Random/Ranked battles. My initial plan was to use a doubloon coupon on Munchen or Scharnhorst, but the sudden adding of Mysore made this harder.

For T6 and 7 premiums, I look at them for potential in operations before potential in Random/Ranked battles. My initial plan was to use a doubloon coupon on Munchen or Scharnhorst, but the sudden adding of Mysore made this harder.  I just want to know what your opinions are on which ship to get.

Mysore Pros:
T6, can be used for most operations
RN CL AP with pen and ballistics similar to FR light cruiser AP, meaning devastating results against the squishy cruisers you'll find in these ops.
Creeping Smoke, Heal, and Hydro, giving her perhaps the best toolkit of any T6 cruiser
Very Good Stealth for a T6 cruiser, with only the other British light cruisers besting her
200% XP bonus for the first 30 days of ownership, meaning plenty of time to farm XP and CXP

Cons:
No torpedoes, so killing harder targets/last ditch desperation moves are harder to pull off
Poor DPM. Seriously, Huanghe has more DPM
Being a Fiji/Crown Colony class, firing angles probably suck
AP only means angled targets cause problems, like in Newport (but Newport is a biatch anyway so probably won't play that op)
slow at 31.5knts
Limited commander training options

Munchen pros:
Fast and stealthy, meaning she can get to the CV without getting noticed by the Missouri
can run in Narai, meaning more credit and XP gains per run
solid consistent DPM
Good range for a T7 cruiser (especially light) at 16.6km
can run Lutjens, and will quickly take advantage of his Iron Strike perk

Cons:
Will blow up if shot at by Missouri (what cruiser doesn't though)
meh torps
AP pen leaves much to be desired
Shell arcs not great
Only op it can be used in is Narai, so might only get used once a month

Scharnhorst Pros:
Armor
Secondaries
Torps
Lutjens
Speed

Cons:
Guns can be trolly and lack pen and overmatch against bigger targets
Only op it can be used in is Narai, so might only get used once a month

Munchen/Scharnhorst Caveat:
the next KoTs tourney should be taking place in about a month form now, and completing the coinciding collection (which I will complete next KoTs) grants a T7 premium currently on sale, so there is a chance Munchen or Scharnhorst could drop from that. Or I'll get some filler like Yudachi or California that will just sit in port until the next snowflake event.

The Munchen does not have the brawn to fight the CV with her escorts. You are going to have to provoke a fight with one escort at a time without being fired on by any number of enemies all around the map. I use the Munchen for hunting transports instead. Just remember to use HE for shore batteries which is a ring within a ring. The AP is not enough to hurt a shore battery.

The scharnhorst is a perfect design for Narai. Almost purpose built.

I also use the Yorck and other similar warships strictly for Ops. Atlanta and Atlanta B in particular. Essentially a harvesting machine for Narai. The Leander for the rest. With London for the base attack taking out oil tanks and the odd shore battery. I would very much love to see Wows build more operations and scenarios. But suspect there is no Corporate interest at all. And thats a shame. Partly when you consider only one operations per week with the others gated behind a division number minimum which most of us do not have.

The only problem with Narai is when I drive past the QE BB into the transport land, I am followed in also by other cruisers and even a BB or two. Its a waste of firepower and dilutes what you need to get past the missouri. When that happens with too many to the far right, its a defeat, Carrier not sunk etc.

Scharnhorst has been released for quite a while.  She is STILL widely regarded as one of the best investments if you choose to spend money on this game.  And it does not matter what game mode you prefer to play her in.

I bought Mysore, mostly for the 3X XP.  It's a good ship, nothing wrong with it.  If I had to only choose one for OPs, it would be Sharn though.

Gonna say Sharney, Munchen although fine for Narai is just not as good. I don't have Mysore but with out torps it doesn't seem as desirable for tier 6 Operations as other choices. The one thing I know for sure is, that Sharney won't let you down in Narai very often. Strasbourg is a Narai monster if you have her.

Munchen did all right though.

@tfcas119  It depends.  If you just run Ops of the Week, you'll get more "bang for buck" with Mysore, as currently there are 4 T6 Op's and only 1 T7 Op (Narai).  This will translate to more FXP overall, which can in turn be used to skill up Captains (among other things).  If you are constantly running with a Team for Narai however, this changes things quite a bit.  At this point, I'd personally go with Shiny Horse.  She'll carry much better in Narai than Munchy for a simple reason: She can tank.  Shiny Horse has torpedoes, solid guns, and decent secondaries, on top of her respectable armor.  If I were to have a complaint about Shiny Horse, it's that she's been coated with Napalm that's been turned up to 11.  That and she will troll you with her dispersion at times. :Smile_hiding:

I was going to mention this, but I'll add this instead.  I got Mysore and I can tell you guys from experience its not a great ship for raptor rescue, and it won't be good in the other ops either.  At best I'd say the Mysore is passable, at best.  Its lack of good DPM and no torps are too much to make up for any strengths it has.  I'll be using it to help rank up my Perth captain.  So my advice would be to pass on the Mysore, and if you want to get a T6 for ops I can recommend the Perth wholeheartedly.  I think its one of the most underrated ships for the T6 ops.  Its only real downsides are its short gun range, and is it's not a captain trainer being a commonwealth ship.

If you think you want a T7 then I think the consensus will be the Scharnhorst.  Its a good ship for Narai, assuming you like BB play.  I like playing cruisers in Narai so I like Munchen.
