With torp reload sending out 20 every 4 minutes it could be fun....except no smoke. Just what you want in a non-AA DD is no smoke with CV in every game. If you have the Shimikaze you really dont need this boat. Worse detection by .5km, worse speed and turn, no choice of long or short range torps, and AA no better. All that for 5 less torps that take longer to load and slightly better guns that will still get you killed against a Gunboat. Get any two 1 mill exp ships before you waste 2 mill on this POS. Dang...I sure hope if Kitakami ever comes back its not a free exp ship. Took forever to get 2 million. Edited January 25, 2021 by Lone_Starr

You go from a hardcore torp boat to a middle of the road hybrid, but you're still not a true gunboat, so why should you expect to be capable of killing DDs that are optimized for gun combat using your own guns? That's just dumb.

A ship is just a tool. How well a tool performs is up to the person using the tool. Hayate is not a "Low Skill" ship. It's a DD for players that understand how to use its synergies. If you can use a Harekaze well, or a Yugumo well, you should be able to do quite well with Hayate. Torpedo reload booster is for player that know how to dance at the edge of detection range and properly sabre fight. If you don't know how, then run smoke and just treat Hayate as a better Yugumo which is exactly what it is. Player keep comparing this ship to Shimakaze and they should not. The Shima is a torp boat through and through. A specialist. Haru is a gun boat and anti air platform through and through. Another specialist. Hayate is a hybrid that uses the same layout of guns and torps as a Yugumo, but packing 2 more torps tubes, one per launcher, and improved 127mm guns with a higher rate of fire, and that are true dual purpose guns able to operate as anti surface and anti air. the triple mount 25mm close range AA of the Yugumo are replaced with 40 mm twin mounts of licence built Bofors pattern guns. While not as good as say American DD anti air it is sufficient unto the day. Instead of complaining about how "bad" the ship is, maybe you should focus your efforts on playing the ship like a Hayate.. not a Gering, or a Haru, or a Shima, or any other DD in the game. There are no Perfect ships in this game. But there may be ships that fit YOUR style of play perfectly. Just because it's not right for you does not, and cannot mean that it won't fit another player perfectly. To say such is a sign of arrogance, hubris, and a strong lack of awareness. Try to be better then that. If you wanted easy to should stick to playing checkers with a 5 year old. If you shelled out 2 mil FXP for this ship there's no refunds. So maybe you should concentrate on learning how to play it right because the Dev team is St Petersburg is not going to make any changes to a tier X premium that by some folks observations might be a just a tad "Over Powered" in is own right. One other important factor of note. You play on a team of players. Some may be gods of the sea, but better than 50% are going play average to abysmally bad, and how well your team plays as a team is going to strongly influence how well you are going to perform in Hayate or any other ship. Seems like a sure sign of arrogance, hubris, and a strong lack of awareness. Try to be better than that. 1 1

193 [A-D-F] Sammy_Small Members 636 posts 19,039 battles Report post #6 Posted May 17, 2021 Hayate is not as terrible of a DD that people make it out to be. BUT it is a terrible value in terms of FXP. As a supposed IJN hybrid DD (gun/torp boat) its biggest flaw is concealment, same as Z-52. ( 6.08~6.1 km ). Some CCs and Super Testers suggested that Hayate gets a minor buff to it's base concealment 0.14~0.20 km ( 140~200 meters, its base is ~ 7740 meters or 7.74 km ) So that max concealment build would end up 5.95~5.97 km or in the same range as Gearing, Daring, Halland and Grozovoi (~5.99 km) But the ships are balanced by this hierarchy chart: Soviet >>> "Allied" / "Neutral" >>> Axis >>> YueYang

0 Lt_AldoRaine2 Members 8 posts 360 battles Report post #9 Posted May 21, 2021 Its a excellent boat. Combined with high alpha and a torp reload/BFT build (or whatever its called now) it holds its own and torps a ton. Run without smoke and TRB. its now a shima with better guns. also, its guns are dual purpose so slightly better AA.
