Getting close to coupon expiration time (mousing over the date gives a text message of a new coupon appearing on the 19th).

With 410k coal in reserve, I'm planning on using the coupon on the 17th just as a safety margin and it's down to Yoshino vs Salem as a tier 10 addition for me.   I've been holding on to the current coupon because neither of these ships really excite me and I thought I'd wait to see if anything else popped up while the coupon is active.

I was thinking Yoshino because the torp dynamic is usually more interesting than the mostly torp-less USN cruisers but the reduced battle cost for the Salem makes things interesting.
Already have the Alaska and Anchorage as cruiser trainers for USN whereas the ARP Myoko is my IJN cruiser trainer.

Before the 0.10.1 update news came out, I was going to pick one of the cruisers first and the other second but now my plans are to get the Georgia with the new coupon dropping on the 19th because of Georgia's  upcoming removal.

  • So any thoughts out there to the Yoshino vs the Salem?  Been reading the forum and previous comments haven't really been definitive one way or the other.
  • And for those who still have the coupon active, what, if anything, are you choosing?
  • And don't forget to use it BEFORE the 19th if you are using it.

EDIT:   Fixed coupon image (showing previous resources coupon here, also expiring soon)

FWIW of the 2 I'd go Salem I have both and enjoy it more. I also earn better credits/commander xp from it compared to the Yoshino.

Salem is pretty much a Des Moines with shorter range radar but does get the RN heal so can keep you in th fight longer. It should also be noted that the consumables choice in that the DM allows you to run both hydro and radar. The Salem is either or.

If neither of them floats your boat then why not get the Georgia now with this coupon and wait to see which coal ships are added in the 10.1 patch?

I got extraordinarily lucky and got TWO Super Containers this week of 15k coal each, and Imma be able to get Georgia tonight - without letting this coupon expire. :cap_horn:

There is also the conventional wisdom that the captain skill rework will detract from survivability of supercruisers, so look into that before throwing down for the Yoshino.

Their service costs are the same (45K) so Is this because the Salem's ammunition costs tend to be lower?

Is it safe to assume that the other coupon is still available to you, as the one that you are showing is for the Doubloon discount (notice the 'gold coins')?  If the other one (for steel or coal) isn't available, you are out of luck on a discount on either of those ships for now. ;)

Oof!   Thanks for that check.  I'll have to long in later today and see.  Definitely a bungle on my part!

EDIT: Just logged in via the armory page; I still the coupon and it expires the same day as the doubloons coupon so I'll replace that graphic later today.  Thanks again!

I am looking at these two cruisers for the sake of a tier 10 container, should the snowflakes occur, as I mentioned previously. That, as opposed to a tier 9 dropping steel in the Georgia's case.

With nearly 120 ships in my fleet (modest by some other players' standards, I know), the ships I have are already fighting for time to be played.  So at this point, any ship that's not a tech tree ship advancement has to have something rather special about it for me to be angling for it.   I do have an eye for the Massachusetts, but with the Alabama already in my fleet and my intent to get the Georgia before it goes with my next coupon, it's more of a nice to have.

Get Salem. Yoshino is garbage.

Anyone else have an opinion?  Not a lot I can do with one ship being called garbage, though that opinion is appreciated all the same!

I'm in the same (although I lack the Moskva, but I have the Petro and it seems more of the same).

Nor do I know if there will be a new coal boat that is worth waiting for.
