It occurred to me that my ship drop rates were unusually high this year, so I went back and looked at my crates over the last three years.

  • In 2018-19, over 44 crates (mostly small), one ship (from a Mega)
  • 2018-19 - 2.3% ship drops
  • in 2020, over 16 crates (mostly big), three ships
  • 2020 - 18.8% ship drops

Now, granted that we're mixing apples and oranges with these crate types in this small sample, it still calls the question.

Can anyone compare previous years' rates with this one?

Did WG maybe buff the rates along with a purported tweak to algorithm?

From what I can see so far the ship drop rate is pretty high on the big and mega.

My average was 4 ships per pack of 20 mega boxes, only one of those 20 packs did i buy that i didnt get any ships, and one gave me 3.

Yup! I havent been around for any prior christmas events!

Also, that mega pack that had no ships gave me i think ~80k coal, was an absurd amount.

The fellow that reported 340 crates (260 Mega, 80 Big) had a ship drop rate of 16.8% (57 ships), if I recall the numbers correctly.  So your result is within the margin of error.

But I'm looking for data for previous years.

No need really, The Santa event is very generous at giving away ships, depending on the size of your port.

I would've thought, this years drop rate would be an the stingy/Grinch side due do the cut backs in production...  So far, the only difference this year was the cancellation of the thanksgiving fleet sales.. The Santa event have been very generous in 2020.

Relatively small sample sizes but what can you do.

So for 2019:

And for 2018:

2018 - 8% (mostly Big)

2019 - 10% (mostly Mega)

2020 - 10% (3/4 Big, 1/4 Mega)

Small sample size?

2018

  • 250 small - 3.6%
  • 260 Big - 11.2%
  • 558 Mega - 10.6%

2019

  • 450 small - 1.6%
  • 237 Big - 8.4%
  • 538 Mega - 13.6%

So far it does look like the drop rates have been buffed on the order of 5%.

Compared to this year's 10k+ results 2k is relatively small :Smile_teethhappy:.

If not wrong this year we are at around

1-2% for normal, 10,5%+ for big, 16%+ for mega.

Decent drop rates but the controversy kinda covers it up.

Just the mega crates are 8.5k results. Not saying all are valid responses, but certainly more than previous years.

Thanks!  I'll add my 2 cents.

Does no one care that there has been a significant buff to ship drop rates this year?  Or does it not conform to the obsession with fake malfeasance?

Why do I bother?

Why do I bother?

It's the times and the internet.  Reasoned discussion is no longer valued or encouraged.

The ship drop rates seem practically identical to 2019.

There was a change in ship drop rate from 2018 to 2019 (the medium sized crate was the best ship return per dollar spent in 2018, they changed the drop rates to be pretty much identical in ship drop rate per dollar spent in 2019), but they also changed a few of the rules between those two years, in particular not allowing doubloons for duplicates when you have all the ships on the list.
