Much as I'd like to have Neustrashimy, I can't see spending 296,000 coal for it. Considering the rationale given for jacking up the coal cost of these two ships, they could have given them normal costs, and offered owners of those ships a one time, 1:10 coal-for-steel exchange up to the original steel costs of those ships. Or maybe sweeten it to make up for the "sorry other people will have these ships now," make it 1:12. I know not everyone with those ships will have 205,000 coal on hand to get their steel back for Neustrashimy, but they could at least exchange whatever they have, if they want. And it would have made Neustrashimy more attainable for more players. When it was removed, the reason given was that it wasn't popular. This is not going to help.

the ships are sold under feature for now in armory. One of the devs stated once the next patch hits, they will be moved to the ships tab which coupons can be applied.

Thanks, found it. Price does seem excessive.

The justification is that since they were originally Steel ships, their value in coal is higher than what it would normally be.

By moving from steel to coal, its obtainable by a larger portion of the player base. However, it comes at a cost. A higher cost in coal, that is.

The research bureau could always use more ships.

Ah, but the whole reason to move them from steel to coal was that they werent selling enough.

Its silly to expect that with the same relative price...they will sell more...

...but thats the play WG is making.

Which makes no sense to me, i dont want any of them, but their price should have been converted to coal at the 10:1 ratio. *Shrug*

There's another thread on this very topic where Hapa disingenuously tries to say (paraphrased) "WG is protecting the feeling of people who spent steel on it."

He neglects to mention that the Neustra and Flint are in the Santa Crates this year.  Perhaps if people were able to use a coupon on them and they were a reasonable amount of coal, folks wouldn't be tempted to gamble on christmas crates.

I am so glad I never got any of these.  Last holiday season, me and some of the guys on Discord were talking about what Steel Ships to go for.  Flint was a common desire.  I almost went for it but I held off.  After these guys bought Flint that December, WG announced they were getting pulled and eventually returning as Coal Ships!

Just LOL!

behold, WG Armory INFLATION! and you will pay this, and you will pay more for the next ship as WG tries to dry up the accounts of the long term players, so that they have to open there wallets again in order to acquire every ship.

It's thinking like that - the perceived need to "compensate" Neustra/Flint/Black owners for their ships becoming more available - which led to these inflated prices in the first place.

I bought the Black for steel shortly before the N/F/B were pulled, and when they told us what was going to happen I said "Okay, so I took a hit for the steel but at least I won't have to find the coal for the Black when she returns and at least now I will eventually be able to actually get the Neustrashimy AND the Flint." (I'm not one for Ranked or Clan Battles.)  Hearing that was more than adequate "compensation" for the steel I paid.

Why do I necessarily have to do that?

Who says I have to want every coal ship, or get every coal ship, WG puts out? By being discerning and selective, I had over half a million coal last night. I was able to get two of the three ships I wanted, and will pick up the third (Flint) in due course.

It's not the Flint and Neustra people will be spamming boxes for; it's the ships they can't get in any other way. Every man and his dog is dumping on Flint because she's going to lose access to AFT next year, and the Neustrashimy is a specialist DD with a high skill floor which, as far as I can tell, very few people with the steel to pick her up actually got. She doesn't exactly fill the MM on any sort of regular basis. I see far more Benhams than Neustrashimys, and the acquisition window for the Benham was VERY short.

You know just as well as I do, the average potato see "oh look at the STEEL SHIP in the box" and says how nice it would be to have it.

Of course, on top of the eternal hope for a Belfast or Kamikaze.
