Good job Mouse. Glad to see you are almost up to date, a thing that WG keeps in making more difficult (releasing Plymouth too with this update, wth are they thinking...).

Z-35 was somewhat dismissed when she was premiered as a useless DD, but WG have somehow made a DD that is more interesting than her stats would suggest. She reminds me a lot of the mid-tier Soviet DD performance, when you still have to fight those firing angles to keep pumping out damage and her torpedoes are efrectively useless. Those were fun, but I don't know if she will be as effective at tier VIII.

Awesome review as always +1. Any chance we will see one for the Plymouth anytime soon? Being steel, an expensive one at that, I want to make an informed decision.

Steel ships are sadly lower priority for me.  I want to focus on stuff for which Wargaming is charging the dollarydoos.  I mean, don't mistake me ... I really WANT to review Plymouth.  I want to play her so bad, you have no idea.  But in December we're seeing both Strasbourg (tier VII French battleship) and Hizen (tier IX Japanese) battleship coming out from various events.  That's already upwards of 80 hours of review work between the two of them, to say nothing of anything else they release between now and then (and they probably will).

So Plymouth and the other steel ships will have to wait.

Thanks for the review! Been looking forward to this one :)

I managed to get Z35 with discounted doubloons in the armory, which was really nice. So I felt it worth the risk. This is not something I can say about Z-44.

Still, I'm sad about the lack of Engine Boost and usable torps. But the British DD smokes sure are nice.

I think this was always your original mission, and completely understandable. Thank you again for all the hard work you put into your reviews to inform and educate.

As Steel and RB ships are pure Freemium perhaps they might be suited to a short story format versus the novels produced for sold-for-cash ships? If not we'll just look in the comments for your views :)

Nice review.

Can't help noticing this boi loses, stat-wise, to Akizuki in a in every way (even stealth!) except maneuverability. At least the smoke seems nice.

Thank you Miss Maus. An awesome review, as always. :Smile_great:

I already have Z-35... and I feel that she's a GUDBOTE. So much dakka dakka, and it can be a pure joy, lol. :Smile_teethhappy:

She beats Akizuki in HE penetration (ducky has to take IFHE to match).  And don't discount manoeuvrability.  Agility is one of those facets that opens many doors to high skill play.

Hm. Nothing that I'm seeing in this review makes me eager to set aside my Z-39 for this thing. Still, thanks for another excellent write-up.

I picked up the Z-35 last week - and would agree with the Gudbote assessment. I may also be demonstrating aspects of the difficult skill floor with my WR at the moment. When the stars align, it can really carry and at other times it falls apart fast. I find that in games which have only the two bases and not the caps it tends to flounder a bit. It does not do well in meeting other DDs in the open spaces. It also suffers when alone, as suddenly finding that there are no spotters about can become a self inflicted smoke blindfold as opposed to a cozy place to rain death from. I've had other DDs in random dart into my smoke, rather than spot on some occasions. Better communications would probably have sorted that out.

The short range torps force interesting choices, and picking very deliberate engagements have resulted in dead BBs if they are isolated. So patience is a driver requirement. The range does not allow a lot of back and forth between torps and guns which the other KM DDs can play with throughout the match. Its especially hard if too much damage occurs early, as moving into a stealthy torp mode and fighting on is not a viable option.

That said, when the situation can be controlled the Z-35 is a demon. I just need to get better at controlling this demon. Have run the KM DD line up to Z-52, as well as the T-61 and Z-39 (So KM bias declared). The Z-35 is an interesting addition and I described it as a beast in one game chat after ripping apart a Tirpitz followed by a cruiser a while later.

Enjoyed the review - and thanks for the analysis Mouse. Have already adjusted the aiming system for main battery 2 mod as you suggested to see if it helps having to hold a broadside and slug things to death through shear force of HP dominance.

Anyone. I have a question, purchased Tirpitz B and in the offer was 2500 doubloons after I win 5 battles. I did more than 5 winnings and never got doubloons? Why?

Re-read the mission.  You get the mission for buying Tirpitz B, but playing the regular Tirpitz.  The mission is meant to incentivize players who already own one premium to buy the Black version of it and recoup some of the cost.  If you don't own Tirpitz, you won't be able to complete the mission you unlocked when you bought Tirpitz B.

Yes, it's easy to miss.
Yes, it's kinda scummy.

Z-35 is one of my favorite German DDs and I wish more of the line was like her. Faster gun reloads and short-cooldown British smoke really synergize with her hydro, and while the short torpedo range means it rarely gets a blowout high scoring game, it's able to produce much more reliable damage than other chonker Deutsche DDs playing torpedo sniper with their terrible stealth or trying to use guns from their crappy smoke. Z-35 can pretty neat post-up at will, and between strong AP and the improved HE pen she can chisel decent damage out of most targets. I'm glad I picked up both this ship and Hayate earlier this year. Both are underappreciated.

Got this thing out of a Santa Crate, and I honestly would have rather pulled Cheshire. I don't know that I've ever played a worse tier VIII premium.

EDIT: Seriously, this ship feels like it was balanced as a tier VII vessel, then pushed up to tier VIII because WG didn't want another premium German DD competing with Z-39. She's missing a consumable, she's missing dynamic torpedoes, and her only compensation is a slightly improved reload on guns that just aren't good enough. To put it plainly, this thing should have been at tier VII, and from everything that I'm hearing, Z-44 should have been at tier VIII.
