Stop Buying Black Friday Containers!

I took a stab and spent $5 for another container. I got 1250 doubloons. Cool! I can always use more doubloons!

But I went and checked. If you want to buy 1250 doubloons from the premium shop, it costs $5.

So the camos are the same price. The doubloons are the same price. So what is "Black Friday" about that?! All it is you are taking a very poor chance at getting a ship.

None of this is news.

As has been explained by several players already in numerous locations on this forum, if you mean to spend real money on a container with the hopes of landing a ship, you have to be okay with the minimum you can win:image.thumb.png.0c3e5ae3752f826d03f9df717815ee6c.png

So if you aren't okay with 1,250 doubloons, or 20x Shadow Lurker camos, or 10x Type 59 camo patterns, or 14 days of premium ($7.19 USD value), or 35k free xp instead of a ship, you don't make a purchase.
It's really as simple as that.   If none of those items is worth $5 to you, don't buy.
If those items have some value to you, but maybe not $5 worth, maybe you buy the 5, or 10, or 25 container package and get a better $/per container value.  But even then, you have to be okay with what you can get.
And you have to understand that while you have a chance to land a ship, you've also a good chance of not obtaining one.

So if you aren't okay with this, don't buy any more containers.   And if you mean to tell others not to buy them, at least give a reason why they shouldn't.  Your dissatisfaction may not be theirs.

My own situation:  the Kaga & Atlanta have some attraction to me, but not enough to take a chance of obtaining camos, of which I already have many.   And I've a few thousand doubloons, so I'm not in need of any more.   So I didn't make a purchase.

I agreed with your assessment. My issue is that the idea of a "Black Friday" sale implies you should be getting extra value for your money. So instead of giving exactly the value of a $5 container in doubloons, at least give 2000. Or something to justify calling it Black Friday.

Amazon would never sell a grab bag for $1000 with the prize being one of 4 things that all cost $1000 if you bought them on their own.

Thank you but no thank you...

You broke even on a gamble for a ship, that isn't bad.  If you want to try again you can buy one of the crates in the armory for the 1250 doubloons won.  Two tries at a ship for your five bucks isn't a bad deal.

WGing doesn't own you the grand prize when you choose to gamble.  I get the impression you're not responsible enough for gambling.

Please see my second post before trolling. I am not asking for the jackpot. Nor is it gambling  because I am not losing anything. It is disingenuous to promote "Black Friday" and you only witn something you could have bought for the same amount.

Once you've been around for long enough, you'll have a general feel for the various currencies in the game. As I knew I was going to spend dough on the game over time, I had to figure out the value of the various currencies. Here's my own data I use when buying stuff:

$1 will give me roughly:

250 dubs

1,500,000 credits*

2,000 coal

15,000 Ship XP*

10,000 Free XP*

40,000 Commander XP*

400 Research Bureau points

400 Steel

* Own performance data traced to flag that cost dubs, hence $. As I am a 49% WR player others will tend to have better performance and higher numbers on those data points.

Signals:

Those are either economic or special. Former is roughly $0.3 for 10 each. Latter is roughly $1.5 for 10. In both cases some are more valuable than others. Equal Speed is the most valuable of the economic signals (~$0.6 for 10) while the Red Dragon and Scylla are the most valuable special signals for me (~$1.75 for 10).

Camos:

There's so many of those, but in general I use $2 for 10 of them as a rule of thumb. Some are really great and much more valuable. Of the easy-to-get the Type 59 is best for me. Those are ~ $2.5 for 10 when not on sale.

Once you have the hang of the general numbers, it's much easier to determine if you are getting a good deal or not.

Do you think that when you play at a casino during Black Friday that they own you victories with every game?  You are engaging in random chance to strike the jackpot and you failed.  WGing doesn't owe you the jackpot when you let the Fates choose for you nor does it own you compensation for getting a losing roll.

i.... i just don't understand why people continue to buy containers. It is clear that they are a rip-off, and that when they put the ships on top and in a bullet-point list to create an impression of an equal...ish chance to roll a ship as any other result...

seriously... people should stop wasting money on gambles... unless they are masochists and like to feel regret, remorse, and disappointment as wg bends them over and is having them and are laughing at them. idk. it's on these people then.

Troll troll troll...

You are arguing with yourself. I am not disputing anything with you. Just please read my posts so you can understand the point I am making.

Try this... I understand it is late on a Sunday and you are alone. You might be questioning your life decisions and/or just blaming the world for why you are where you currently find yourself. Hopping on the WOW forum and just firing off random replies without actually reading what was posted will only provide you a momentary dopamine rush, but it will never compensate for your failures...

LOL!! THAT is how you troll.. :)

So again, please just read the posts...

Yes.! Thank you!

It took me a bit longer to get there than some people, but I get it now. That is why I started this thread. But for some reason others are trying to stir things up. Looking at you Sventex..

Now you are deflecting.. My earlier post was about my frustration about not getting a boat but i thought I was still getting extra value for my money for buying a "Black Friday" sale.

This thread is about my frustration about figuring out that I am not actually getting anything extra, I am getting exactly what the $5 would normally get me.

The fact that you are researching my previous post to try and justify your trolling, is kinda sad. But if that is what floats your boats, over two years ago I posted about how the Neptune sucks, but since then I have learned to play it and now it is one of my favorite ships. It was from two years ago but maybe you can use it to troll some more.

Do you really think that the "Black Friday" deals that you find in stores are really deals? Sores are going to sell you merchandise at exactly the price that they plan to. The "deal" is all in your head. You collect data on past sales and then calculate how much lowering of the price it takes to draw in more customers. You profit more those customers by simply getting them to browse your merchandise because there's a good chance that they will leave with more than they planned to. Also, with more customers you can lower your profit margin and still ending up making more money if you sell more merchandise. At least with the WOWS "sale" you know up front what you are going to receive as a minimum, with the chance of winning more. It's like buying a lottery ticket for two bucks and then being given a candy bar too.

Yes, you posted on my previous thread. And all it proves is you only post two sentence snark. After reviewing all your previous replies, all you seem to do is post snarky comments. I could not find a single reply where you actually added anything to the conversation. Everything you post is snarky "troll" blather.

There is no achievement for the number of posts...

If you ask me, the real deals for the Black Friday in WoWs are with the direct purchases of the ships. They get some hefty discounts that you normally wouldn't see on the Premium ships. There's the Black Friday deals that you were looking for. As such, I personally advocate for just buying the ships outright, if anyone really wants the BF ships.

As for the crates... well, that's just how gambling works in general. Still, I suppose getting a chance of winning a ship for just $5 would mean something for some people, since there're people who actually DO win ships that way... whereas directly buying $5 worth of doubloon is just a $5 worth of doubloons, and nothing more.

BTW, you do get a discount if you buy the crates in bulk. Bigger the bulk, cheaper the cost-per-crate it is. I guess there's the deal that you were looking for? LOL.

I personally would never buy any of the crates individually, paying full price per crate, and instead always go for a maximum bang-for-a-buck, or the best "unit price," and buy in the biggest bulk. I might as well, to maximize the chance of winning something decent... lel.

Black Friday Ships are discounted. Black Friday Crates are loot boxes that give you a chance to win those discounted ships. It's not a hard concept to grasp.

Yes. This. So much.

I almost bought the Kaga earlier this year, after having her for the second time as a 24 hour rental and really enjoyed it. I held off, though, when the Dockyards started. I realized that this was a cheaper way to obtain premium ships for my port, I liked the premium ships they were offering, so the doubloons I had earmarked for the Kaga got spent on Odin and Anchorage (and the leftovers on a camo for the Daring).

I would have had a good old eye-rolling chuckle if I'd bought the Kaga at full cost a few months ago, only to find that she was the 2020 Black Fleet CV! :Smile_veryhappy: (TBH I was expecting Saipan or Indomitable.)

Yes, I did spend extra money because of the doubloons I expended on the two Dockyard premiums. But I'd been planning to get the Kaga later anyway, and having her be this year's Black CV meant that I got her more cheaply than I otherwise would have.

If you buy one crate at a time, yes.  If you buy multiple crates at a time, the cost per crate decreases.

It is still wise to expect most crates will contain camo.

This happens EVERY time one of these events with loot boxes comes around (Black Friday, Christmas, etc).  People buy these crates expecting to get some super prize.  People don't win the lottery, then come to the forums to complain the loot boxes are a scam.  No, they aren't...those players just can't accept they won't be big winners every time they buy a box. It's silly.

Loot boxes can pay off in two ways as I see it:

  1. You get an otherwise unobtainable ship;
  2. You buy ONE or two crates and get contents that far exceed your money spent.

Unless you roll those two big winners, you are probably only going to get content equal to what you spent...and a lot of that content is going to be camo.

Now, let's say you spend a chunk of money on Santa crates and you get lucky enough to get a ship.  Great, right?!?  But wait...is it even a ship you wanted?  You just gambled for a random ship.  For example, last Christmas I bought two x8 Big Santa containers and paid $44.00.  I got two ships...Le Terrible and Ark Royale.  I don't play CV, so scratch any interest in that.  The DD is pretty 'meh'.  What I should have done is taken that $44 to the premium shop and bought a ship I wanted.  That would have meant a 100% success rate of getting a ship I cared about.

I spent $99 on 25X BF crate bundle for my main acct and got back $273 in item value. Yup, they sure screwed me LOL.

I didn't learn my lesson I guess and bought a 5X crate bundle for my alt acct at $22.50. Got back $88 in item value (JB B biggest part). Man I got taken.

And even if I broke even I would have no complaints. Everything in the crates is good and useable so if I at least got my money's worth what is the issue? As long as we at least get an equal return in item value for what we spend the crates are not rip offs.

If you buy crates expecting the ships or other small % chance items then it is your own fault if you aren't happy with the other stuff you get and no ship/rare item. ONLY buy the crates if you will be happy with standard content. Consider getting the ship/rare item as a bonus.

I'd feel happier agreeing with this statement if we had a reliable yardstick against which to measure some of the flags and camos they give out. Some of them (e.g. Equal Speed Charlie London, Type 59 camo) have an openly advertised doubloon price (that which will be deducted from you if you have auto-replenish switched on and none left in your stock), and others have effects very similar to a combination of these from which an equivalent price can be calculated, but beyond that it gets rather messy!

That YOU consider it worthwhile is not in doubt, to the point where I am not even debating the issue with you, merely admitting my own personal reservations.

On this matter, we are in perfect agreement.

Maybe the golden rule of premium containers should be "If you're going to pitch a hissy fit over anything less than a naughty-list Tier 9 premium, stay the hell away from the crates."
