I see a lot of ideas floated around, but has anyone ever thought of adding ship tenders to the game?  In my thoughts, they could be used to serve as a repair ship, have decent AA and secondary fire.  Of course speed and maneuverability should not be great, but this class of ship served a vital function in WWII and sailed with the fleet.  They encountered hostile fire just like the other warships.  It could be another line similar to CVs, and would add a another dimension to the game.  Don't flame me as I'm just throwing it out there as an idea.  You never know unless you propose a new idea..........

They have them in ops.

I think one of the problems with this ship type would be it would have very little defense against CVs, so it would have to sail with friends to keep from being torped/bombed.  And if it sailed with friends, it would be a priority target.

It might die before it did anything, and would therefore result in low rewards for playing.

That is why they are in the Operation/Scenario modes. They wouldn't stand a chance in the other current modes.

WG would have to make a new mode for them to be used as player controlled ships. Perhaps as part of a player controlled  escorted convoy vs player controlled wolfpack or convoy raiders.

It can be done with no more effort than the special battle mode events.

Yes, repair ships are in certain scenarios, but not all.  I suppose I'm suggesting having them in randoms in order to give players another objective other than take the cap.  It would add a little more depth, and yes, the CVs would be hunting them.  They would need decent AA and give at least one other ship a job providing AA and defense.  Plus, player operated repair ships would need to be rewarded (xp) for how much assistance they provided in game.  And you have a good idea there, Chief Mudd.

In random they wouldn't need exceptional AA, nor a dedicated AA escort ship since to stay in the fight the other team members would have to stay close to maintain their HP. This in turn would facilitate the ship earning xp. 

Teams would finally see the need for maintaining a formation instead of scattering like roaches at the General Quarters announcement. 

That in mind would be cause to give CVs that repair ability so they would need to move with the rest of the team to keep them in the fight.

I had a similar idea one night while I was coming up with my own suggestions to improve CV play, and calm some of the hate for unlimited planes. I thought CVs should have a replenish feature.They go to the edge of the map and call for extra fighters to replenish the squadrons from support carriers beyond the edge of the map. Of course this like repair party, smoke, radar, ect. would have only a certain number of charges. I figured it could help balance being deplaned as even with the current system you theoretically have unlimited planes but practically you will at some point be rendered ineffective because you are sending up planes one, maybe two at a time. I got this idea from reading up on HMS Unicorn which as a support carrier for the RN was used to repair and replenish the fleet carrier's squadrons.

Having a repair/resupply tender system for the other ships as well in PvP sounds like it could go a long way in helping new players getting into the game, or maybe give a crutch to ships that have been power crept and don't play as well as they used to. A system like this would also probably play best with larger maps where we have room to maneuver better with the tenders, as well as giving us somewhere to go when we need to repair. Having a new game mode featuring this tender system would also bring something fresh to the game, and maybe drum up some new interest. We could call this mode Fleet Battle.

Now that I think about it, this sounds a lot like that one game type in WoT where the map was made up of 9 standard WoT maps set in stages with attackers and defenders. In that mode there were repair/resupply areas that you could drive to. That mode was some of the most fun I had in WoT, mainly because I got a much better opportunity to play and learn my T10 tanks against people since the maps weren't so cramped. It was especially fun for my medium tanks since they had room to run and use those new steering physics that had been implemented a few patches before.

How about PT boats (torpedo boats) then?  Small, fast, and hard to hit.  They would have to return to the tender after each run to reload.

Maybe the tender captain could be in control of a squadron of mosquito boats, which would also be responsible for protecting the mother ship. Kind of like the carrier captain is in control of the planes.
