Not sure the video will embed here but saw this interesting OTD post from the Naval Institute on Twitter:

Quote

OTD 1944, Aviation Machinist Mate (Gunner) 2nd Class Loyce Deen was killed when his Avenger from USS Essex was hit by anti-aircraft fire from a Japanese cruiser. In perhaps the only occurrence in U.S. Navy history, Deen was buried at sea in the plane in which he gave his life.

Ah, cool. The link to the tweet seemed to work for me but no media embedded as I suspected. Did you catch the video on their tweet? Sad and moving.

Odd, when I clicked on it the first time I got a not allowed message but this time it worked and the video is there.

I saw the thread title and already knew the video you were talking about.

The war was already won by this point, but fighting still had to be done and the Japanese weren't going to give up anytime soon.
