That moment when you pull the trigger and buy your first tier 10...

...then realize you have 20 or 30 matches of MM calibration to slog through before you can get good MM again.

Thanks a lot, WG. Really makes me want to play more...

Not.

At least I will eventually get a chance to make the Midway shine. But first...got to pay the mob at Lesta their pound of flesh.

Not sure if you're serious.....

Why would T10 (or T9 for that matter) need calibration? They're never bottom tier, only top (or possibly middle for T9)

AFAIK, the calibration is about bottom tier (in a 3-tier spread) only. Now that I think of it, T1-4 probably doesn't have it either.

I have a few questions.

First tier 10 and you choose Midway?  Maybe you just like a challenge.

I'll admit I don't really follow MM and get all the rules and policies.  What do you mean by the calibration?  You are top tier now.

And why pay a pound of flesh?  Midway is a free tech tree ship that you can painfully upgrade in randoms or COOP, or use free XP.

Either way, good luck.  It took me a while to consistently get average to good games in it.

Aw, it'd be too bad if your new T10 gets bottom tier for more than 40% matches. I'd ask my money back if that happened to me!

I know, it really sucks when tier 10 gets bottom tiered. It happens to me every time it seems. Another well thought out thread. Congratulations on your first tier 10, by the way.

Technically you can be Top and Bottom tier at the same time in Tier 10.

Well the fun thing with T10 carriers are the operating costs. MUCH greater than other T10 ships yet much harder to eek out any positive cash flow... unless of course, you BUY a perma-camo.

Congrats on reaching that T10 carrier. If you did indeed choose the Midway, all the best. I haven't played mine but once or twice since the first rework over a year ago. I do however expect to see some solid games from you!

T10 is my absolute favourite.   Just keep at it and keep improving!

Let's look at from d different angle:

Match all t10= top tier.

Match t9 & t10= top tier.

Match tier 8 to 10= top tier....

Yup them 29 matches gonna be rough

I bet I dont see a tier 8 ship for a long time...

I am stock, in guaranteed to be all tier 10 matchmaking all the time.

No tier 8s for me...

I chose Midway, because:

A) Im good at carrier play, and I enjoy it.

B) I had a 19 point captain on my Lexington and had enough credits to move on up.

Thats a good thought.

At least Hallands werent quite as scary as everyone made them out to be.

Even with stock Midway planes, I could get attack runs off...

now if RNG didnt screw over the drops...but thats another conversation.

Once I get these planes upgraded...I will finally be GOD...

...at least until I have to bankroll my credit losses. ;)

The calibration is all about your frequency of bottom tier.

IOW, the calibration (supposedly) ensures you will be bottom tier (in a 3-tier spread) no more than 40% of the time. That's it.

It's superseded by a T10 ship being bottom tier 0% of the time.

Perhaps @Hapa_Fodder can clarify.

I recall that there were targets beyond just being bottom tier...

...and I doubt that Hapa will clarify the exact amounts, since they did not do so when people asked at the time of the change (because the numbers varied by tier).

Do you want me to record my data and post here?

So far, 2 matches...all tier 10. Last match with a griefing friendly Yamato doing the whole continuous collision thing with me.

I found the biggest problem with them was when they turned their AA on and off.

If they left it on, you could bore straight in, take your lumps, and drop your ordnance.

When they get sneaky, and you spot them at the last second, and have to overfly, turn around, and reacquire, that's when they start chewing you up.

But didn't you ever run across them in Lexington?

Not amounts, just that the calibration affects bottom tier frequency, and not middle or top tier.

Nah, not necessary. My first 2 Hak games were all T10 as well, and it's my 6th tech tree T10.

Since they did the 40% thing, I've noticed a lot more single-tier matches at 8,9, and 10 than previously.

Although, if you're playing co-op, the queue might be populated differently, or the calibration may work differently.

With Lexington, I could get a run off IF i dodged his flak AND sacrificed one attack flight to the DPS.

I was worried it would be similar with Midway...but even with stock planes, so long as I dodge flak...its only maybe two planes lost before I can drop ordinance.

With the upgraded planes, they should be no problem.

I have a Midway, but have only taken it out maybe 4 or 5 times in a real battle. The liability is too great. Kinda like being a dd with a bad internet connection or speed. It's not fair to the rest of your green gang.

T10 is the hardest tier to play CV’s in. The AA is strongest in this class. The operating costs are the highest at T10.

Personally, T8 is the most fun for me. Yes, getting bottom tiered sailing a T8 in a T10 match is harder. When your top tier in T8 it’s pretty fun.

Currently the top two CV’s in T10 are the MVR and FDR.
