However, every time I try to login, it doesn't even prompt a chance for me to type my (existing account, which is the same name as my steam account), as it states I must create a new account. I can't find anywhere how to Link both accounts. Edited October 20, 2020 by BrunCarneiro

If you are a steam user like me you cant use a WG username to log in via steam or vice versa. You can buy things via either steam or WG go figure.

When you first try to log into the game through the Steam version, the game will try to create a new pseudo-account that is linked to your Steam account. You can turn that pseudo-account into a proper WG account, which then allows you to start posting on this forum using the said account, by registering it at the WG website. When the Steam version of the game first came out, there used to be a way to fiddle with the files to make your pre-existing WG account to work with the Steam version of the game. However, doing so would not allow you to earn Steam achievements, nor use the Steam wallet to buy anything from the in-game Premium shop. On top of that, the method sort of just faded away after a while, and I never heard about it since. I do not know if the method still works, or WG patched and blocked it, or whatever... but nevertheless, if you want to keep using your pre-existing WG account, then you probably have no other choice but to use WG's own WGC to download the game and log in. Apparently, WG got tired of the issues and WGC is the result.

Apparently, WG got tired of the issues and WGC is the result. I kind of doubt that. Steam does give the game quite more exposure. It is a huge platform for PC games, with lots of potential new customers. Of course, whether WG can actually keep anyone new checking the game out is... a bit worrisome? However, that's a discussion for another time. Nonetheless, I believe removing the game from Steam might back fire on them in a noticeable way. Still, I have no idea why WG doesn't allow people with pre-existing WG account to log into the Steam version, whereas people who create new account can migrate to WGC by registering the pseudo-account. It's just the same game and the same server, and the Steam version is just offering an alternative entry way to log in... and that's pretty much it.

The only thing I can think of is it is a data bottle neck. Not in terms of game performance, but in terms of access to players, the updates, etc. Think WG wants an obstruction free means to access, but doesn't want to cross any bridges so to speak. For a time WG needed Steam, but apparently they don't need them now.
