Some of the transport ships are marked as "Civilian".

The Geneva Convention lays down that civilians are not to be subject to attack. This includes direct attacks on civilians and indiscriminate attacks against areas in which civilians are present.

So by destroying civilian transports are we committing war crimes?

The Geneva Convention was negotiated in the aftermath of both world wars... SO no, no war crimes were committed.

Shoot away.

The AI is not a signatary of the Geneva Convention, so you can blast them without fear.

Pixels driven by a simple AI aren't people. Feeling sympathy for them is what will lead to the robot uprising and true AI taking over the world. Destroy them with extreme prejudice bordering on rabies by visiting obscene amounts of violence on them.

...

Pixel violence of course.

"Civilian vessels, aircraft, vehicles and buildings may be lawfully attacked if they contain combatant personnel or military equipment or supplies or are otherwise associated with combat activity inconsistent with their civilian status"

It does not matter.

If Transport is part of a fleet and is particularly hauling contrabrand or actual war fighting cargo etc then its fair game. Kill it.

We have had ocean liners sunk in both wars from time to time because it was either known or suspected they were transporting war cargo of particularly needful and rare for the war effort.

Now.

If you were a Sub and you sank a fat hospital ship killing 5000 then thats a crime and you will be prosecuted. Usually by hanging which is not a nice way to go; especially if you have to kick for 20 minutes while gagging on that rope.

There is a saying "Guilt by association" if a transport is with other transports and escorted by a nation's warships who open fire against you the enemy... well.. You are not going to go aw, I wont shoot this one or that one. You don't know anything. You sink em all.

SOME PEOPLE however mentally cannot endure war or other very stressful crazy situations imposed on them because they have too much morality. For example. a 10 year old thug pulls out a Tec9 and starts blasting my car at a traffic light. You can bet I am instantly drawing and return fire with the colt until the threat is STOPPED. (Lethal Force has the potential to end a life so... in the situation of being threatened with the thug shooting into house or car, it becomes a castle doctrine problem.) The age of the child thug would not even be a thought. To sit and go hum... I have a problem with morals, Im good as dead if not the family with me also dead.

To fight a war, engage in defense or other actions that sometimes has a potential to destroy things and hurt or kill people... well... that depends on orders from higher. For example if you were given a lawful order with say a German Raider warship to go into the Atlantic and sink convoys. Some of which might having ocean liners packed with 15000 infantry soldiers each. You go sink it. What Germany had to do is issue additional orders not to rescue any of that 15000 due to the incessant 24/7 indiscriminate bombings and firestorms imposed on German Cities. One firestorm killed at least 80000 and due to the nature of the city being reduced to ashes there is never any way to know truly how many more than 80000 known dead. So you go sink the convoy as a lawful response to military command orders. If you don't get caught and sunk first.

If you want a really good delicious movie in the old school, try Dr Strangelove. Its a cold war nuclear era movie in the 60's You have people with the power and indeed the full measure of what is required to issue orders to end the world. Literally end it. And you bring in morals and other problems related to that.

And thats another problem. Fear.

In the Taffy 3 problem against the might of the Japanese Navy attacking all the way to the actual invasion beaches... the Japanese commander got cold feet and turned around a few miles from what would have been a utter and absolute victory. It would have set us back 6 months to a year stranding upwards of 100,000 with just a few days provisions.

When a fight is in progress, you put aside morals, fear, emotions or even thinking. Worry about all that if you survive the fight tomorrow.

I enjoy a good fight whatever it is. I don't always win but generally make a impression with a few knots on my opponent. Usually. They wont forget me any time soon.
