In the recent Waterline episode, they announced that BBs will have access to an ASW plane to defend against submarines.

I suggest that the plane automatically tracks and attacks the sub once launched from the ship instead of requiring player control.

There's already a lot of micro involved such as manual secondaries, AA sector selection on top of standard controls such as sailing and shooting.

If the ASW plane needs constant player input to be effective, the player would be overburdened. This would make the gameplay less fun and cause more friendly ship collisions due to lack of attention to sailing.

dude, its literally point and click and depth charges go boom, it literally couldnt be more simple, its just as easy as selecting a target for Manual Secondaries and afaik, the rule is "bigger ship has the right of way" because BBs cant turn on a dime

True but you also give up control of the ship and like the OP I would rather have it as a consumable that automatically goes out and attacks.

The act itself might be simple, but a lot of simple actions add up to overburden the player. For example, micro-actions in games like Starcraft are simple individually by just pressing a button, but efficiently controlling a bunch of units requires lightning-fast fingers.
