CV pros/cons so far...

Okay, this is rant and rave time.

 

I've acquired American, Japanese, and German CVs up thru VIII.  Midway is next.

Pros: 

Without a doubt, the Tier IV planes are the most enjoyable.  They're slow but the enemy doesn't have any decent AA.  If you've been through the learning phase of how to DB or TB successfully, then these biplanes are totally cool.  Especially the German DBs.  They fly at about 6,000 ft. and drop bombs, then turn around on a dime to do it again.  Great planes.

Tier VI planes also enjoy lousy AA from the enemy ships and can do pretty good damage overall.  I like the Japanese planes in this group the best.  Being able to add a few more options helps too. Keep a level 10+ captain and you can do a lot better.  The German Tier VI is a pain.  Ranger was a slog to get out of. 

Tier VII - All lines are good. The American Corsair with Tiny Tim rockets can drop DDs and CLs;  so I up the setup for those planes.  The German DBs are awesome.  You can DB at full boost.  Japanese planes are good too, nothing weak there.

German secondary guns kick [edited]. I've chased DDs and sank CLs with them.

Cons:

Tier IV planes don't do squat damage.  Trying to stop a cruiser that's shelling you takes plenty of sorties.  And no secondary guns. Tier VI does a little better, but you can hammer a BB all day and with instant repair to them and 3 minutes before another sortie, you're still dead.  

Heavy AA rips all the planes to shreds.  Can't even get off torpedoes without losing an entire sortie sometimes.

Fighters deployed are a weak gimmick.  They should be managed separately from the CV,  not popped out of a box that run out of gas in one minute.  Attack aircraft should be converted to Fighters + Rockets.

Haven't tried the German CVs yet, but I'm up to Ranger and Implacable in the RN and USN lines respectively. I also have Saipan and Enterprise to put my experiences into perspective.

1) CV to Surface synergy: Border line perfect, allows friendly DDs to play aggressively or supportive of the flank while you do the spotting. In addition, the option to finish that bear health ship before they can escape is unparalleled to Hydro and Radar against smoke. 

2) Cons: like you said low and mid tiers require way too much effort for way too little damage. Even the slightest lag spike will destroy even the most careful drop; especially rocket planes. The absence of any form of aim assistance is hard felt and places average CV drivers at a grave disadvantage or even an impediment to their team.

3) Aerial detection nerfs hurt the average CV driver even harder at the mid and low tier; in my Ark Beta, i just ignore CVs.

4) Nerfs aside, Any participating CV is srill the best defense against DDs. Because of this, DDs hate them nore than radar; and always will

I wouldn't say that tier 6 CV's get lousy AA as it is much deadlier than what the tier 4's see but there are still DD's that do not have dual purpose guns which limits their AA.

I stopped playing them at t6. Way too much effort to make any headway at all. Absolutely brutal to play so I commend any cv players for having to suffer the mid tiers.

Oh my goodness I detest Tier IV CVs .. so I don't even venture there.   Its worse then getting a root canal.  

New line German CVs   all I will say is I commend all those CV players that actually play and do well.  Only thing I like about them is when you can actually see the aim reticle and get those occasional citadel producing broadside hits.   Torpedo planes also are not so bad. 

Also not sure what to make of it other than these folks seem to have a absolute DISLIKE for CVs  and since they are low in health and evading\running away from the opposing flanking ships will make every attempt to get as close as possible to the CV to ensure it gets spotted or hit.   ( I have noticed this both in PVP and CO-OP)  

I am loving it when I am on the opposing side and I seeing the said running ship helps point out where the CV roaming about.    On the other hand  but it irritates me to no end when I am making every effort not to be spotted and as I am flying around I see the pink chat that my CV has been been in a collision with the running ship or opposing side is now shooting at me as well.

oh man if I run into that DD player or any player for that matter while I am targeting them that just absolutely give me fits yet continues to do what they are suppose to do AND DOES NOT send me a NASTY messages telling me where I can go and leave to them alone...  I usually give them comps as worthy adversary.

1) Boring gameplay, u play traveling all the time doing nothing;

2) No damage or low damage in attacks;

3) useless squadron attacks, u have a squadron that cannot use all yous bombs/rockets/torpedoes;

4) u cannot do any strategy, is just fly and fly ahead

5) u play vs 2 tier up and your planes die like flies;

 

pro) u can avoid the CV lines and ignores missions that force you play carrier;

times like this i kind of wish carriers were RTS even though i know it won't happen.

CVs are unplayable, a single ship cam now knock out a whole squadron in 1 pass.  your ac basically lines up one by one while rest of the squadron flies straight to their doom, no squad abreast attacks to max deployment of torps no inline trail to max bomb release.  You start the game 30sec from main battery range of enemy ships, no fighter escorts' to keep defenders off.  The old interface at least gave you a chance to conduct  coordinated attacks.  If Cvs were this useless the wouldn't still be the main striking arm of a modern navy .
