Just a question on the Odin model. Why is "A" turret not the same as "B"? Not talking about the rangefinders, just the general turret shape. Obviously intentional as it would be much easier for the modeler to just duplicate the turret model for a fictional ship.

When you pull the ranger finder off the turret, there's a lot of extra space in the top half the turret. All the model did was cut the empty top of the turret off, which would have been important to weight savings on an actual ship. It also shortens the barbette for turret 2, as the barrels of turret two no longer have to clear the extra volume on top of turret one, also a major weight savings in real life.

Either the source material for Odin was fairly detailed, or someone at WG has been studying ship design, possibly both.

Figured there had to be a reason. Easier to just copy and paste. Sharn/Gneis don't show this (except for the rangefinders).

Sharn and Gneis both originally had the number one turret range finders, and they were removed when the Germans figured out that they were going to get filled with seawater at speed. The turrets had already been ordered, so they're sorta stuck with them.

Different turret designs was not uncommon among German ships. Look at the Admiral Hipper for example

Here's a fairly good guess as to why.

If you had a four turret setup, it would be easier to just route the rangefinders for two turrets into a single turret, saving weight and complexity. Of course, this had the downside of taking out two turrets if the rangefinders got disabled.
