362 [LOSC] Halli_SPARTA Members 595 posts Report post #1 Posted September 13, 2020 Greetings and Salutations, Curious as to what folks use laptops to play?! What type do you have and how well does the game run off a laptop? I am out of town many days with my job and wanted to know how well your laptop plays the game. Of course a decent wifi will also make or break the experience.

It's a Ryzen 5 3500u with Vega 8 graphics, 8gb ram (2gb shared), 15" screen and 256gb SSD, it runs this game on medium settings at 1080p at like 40 ~ 50 fps, which is entirely playable.

So the laptop is just when i cant access the desktop. WoWs runs well i dont use low specs as i have seen other people doing. You dont truly a real wi fi. I used to play on 4G when i had problem with my network company for about 2 months. I also have on laptop 24 GB and a samsung SSD.

I have a HP Omen I use to game on the road: i7-9750H 16GB DDR4 1660 Ti I got the thing for frankly a steal as an open box at micro center. It was friggin $899 in January of 2020 (and of course we no longer travel for work as of the end of feb). I more than likely would not have bought it, had I predicted the future. I still use it at home more for dicking around on the internet while watching a movie or something, I sold my other laptop (which wasnt a gamer) when I bought this one. It basically plays most everything I play great. Ships isn't super demanding anyway. The biggest issue on the road, as you said is WiFi. Didn't really have a ton of issues with ships (or maybe it just hides bad wifi better). Rocket League on the otherhand was unplayable due to the wifi. Upgraded wifi at hotels doesn't matter either. Whatever hardware they are working with its just crap for gaming online, I think they might be on an old wifi standard, reminds me of when I tried to game on wifi in the old Wireless-G days, gaming over wifi should be fine with wireless N . I usually end up using my mobile hotspot, it performs better. Edited September 13, 2020 by Taco_De_Moist

Old laptop was Dell Inspiron with 7th gen I-5, 1050ti with 3gb vram, 8gb sodimm ram, 256gb ssd. Played 1080p with settings high at 40-50 fps. New laptop is HP Omen with 10th gen I-5, 1660ti with 6gb vram, 16gb sodimm ram, 512gb ssd. Plays 1920 with settings maxed at 80fps. Be mindful of rapidly diminishing returns with regard to performance-per-dollar spent on hardware for this game. It doesn't need a $2-3000 laptop to play well. While you can play WOWS on both, laptop or PC... If a choice was needed to be made to play WOWS, I would suggest people to go PC and never a laptop. A few reasons... If you need the mobility to sacrifice performance.. Then ok get a laptop. The CPU/GPU in a laptop are the decreased "mobile" version to the original PC GPU/CPU components. IF you live in a very hot and humid place. Dont get a laptop. If you do get a laptop for gaming, make sure you have an external battery over internal one... Laptop batteries are prone to warping or cause explosion under excessive heat. This sucks because gaming creates a lot of heat and stress on a system. In summery, if you're chasing the creme de la creme gains in the best 4k experience gaming... Go PC. IF you want the mobility with sacrificed performance... Then get a laptop..
2,617 [WOLF5] AJTP89 Supertester 4,576 posts 4,223 battles Report post #10 Posted September 13, 2020 I need a good computer for work, a good laptop and desktop aren't in the budget right now, so laptop it is for me. It's got a 1050ti with a i7-7700 processor and 16GB RAM. I have an SSD for the OS, but run off a HDD for space. It runs WOWS just fine, Very High settings at 50-60 FPS pushed to an external monitor at 1140 resolution. Only downside is the fans really spool up when running, the thing sounds like a jet plane taking off. For cooling purposes I would like to have a desktop, but hardware wise a laptop can run WOWS just fine.

For home play a desktop is the best option and with the relatively low requirements for this game a fairly inexpensive laptop can do well. However, for me the ergonomics of laptops make play uncomfortable but I don't need to travel.

Keyboard are good on a laptop, (mind you the quality is not like the durable ol keyboard of yesteryear). Then you don't need to by an extra keyboard. The USB-mouse mandatory for those not use to the horrible mic track of a laptop.
