If you watch the gun, you'll see it really never stops moving as it waits to fire.   It's moving up and down, as the stable gyros

of the FC direct it to compensate for the roll of the ship.  From in there, it looked like the barrel was moving, but if you saw it from

outside, it would look like the barrel was staying on target as the ship moved around it. 

 That is a huge component of the US fire control system and why it was the best of the war.   The US spent a lot of time developing 

the gyros between wars.   They could fire no matter what the ship was doing.  If the seas were too rough for the system to keep

the barrel on target, it could simply wait until the roll made the barrel "pass by" the correct aiming point and fire them then.   

They could maintain accurate fire in any weather, in large part due to having the best stable gyros afloat.
