Hey everyone, Armored (or armoured) cruisers have been on my mind ever since the addition of super cruisers to the game.

My vision of armored cruisers would practically be super cruisers at a lower tier.

Here it is!

Tier III Cruisers

Maryland - American

ACR-4 Pennsylvania / CA-4 Pittsburgh

Survivability

34,180 HP

Main Guns

(2x2) 8 inch guns

14s reload

11.1 km range

Secondary Guns

(14x1) 6 inch guns

10s reload

5.5 km range

(18x1) 3 inch guns

5s reload

4 km range

Main Belt

6 inches

Maneuverability

22.4 knots

10.8s rudder shift

Concealment

10.2 km sea

5.5 km air

Consumables

Damage Control Party

Ship Repair

USS Maryland (ACR-8) was a Pennsylvania class armored cruiser. Based on her powerful secondary complement, in WoWs it would only be fair to give her powerful secondary build. I know low tier secondary builds generally aren't worth it, but they can still come in handy especially because of how often you fight at 4 to 6 km in T3 battles. You will see powerful secondary weapons on most of these Armored cruisers.

Warrior - British

HMS "Achilles" was a Warrior-class armoured cruiser built for the Royal Navy in 1905 | Warship model, Naval history, Cruisers

Survivability

33,210 HP

Main Guns

(6x1) 9.2 inch guns

16s reload

10.9 km range

Secondary Guns

(4x1) 7.5 inch guns

11s reload

6 km range

Main Belt

6 inches

Maneuverability

23 knots

11.8s rudder shift

Concealment

12.5 km sea

5.9 km air

Consumables

Damage Control Party

Ship Repair

HMS Warrior was the first of her class of armored cruisers of the Royal Navy. She carried six 9.2 inch guns in single mountings, Her secondary armament consisted of four 7.5 inch guns in single mountings, with these guns in WoWs, she would have the largest secondary guns in the entire game. And due to her heavy shells, 380 lbs, her reload time would be slightly longer to balance her out with the other armored cruisers.

Jules Michelet - French

Blueprints > Ships > Ships (France) > NMF Jules Michelet (Armoured Cruiser) (1914)

Survivability

30,100 HP

Main Guns

(2x2) 7.6 inch guns

12s reload

13.1 km range

Secondary Guns

(12x1) 6.5 inch guns

11s reload

5 km range

Main Belt

6 inches

Maneuverability

22.5 knots

9.8s rudder shift

Concealment

9.6 km sea

4.9 km air

Consumables

Damage Control Party

Ship Repair

Jules Michelet would be a very unique cruiser in WoW, similar to the low tier French Battleships, her main guns fire shells at an extremely high velocity, 940 m/s. And along with her impressive main guns, she has a powerful secondary armament. Along with her high velocity guns, she is stealthier than the other armored cruisers.

Tier IV Cruisers

Memphis - Americans

Layout of the CA-10, USS Memphis [3285 x 1681] from the-blueprints.com : WarshipPorn

Survivability

35,005 HP

Main Guns

(2x2) 10 inch guns

14s reload

12.1 km range

Secondary Guns

(16x1) 6 inch guns

9s reload

5.5 km range

(22x1) 3 inch guns

5s reload

4 km range

Main Belt

5 inches

Maneuverability

22.2 knots

12.1s rudder shift

Concealment

11.8 km sea

5.8 km air

Consumables

Previously USS Tennessee, she was renamed after it was determined that only battleships could receive the name of a state. She was renamed USS Memphis after her fit which gave her an extra complement of guns and a new cage mast. In practical terms, she was a complete improvement over the previous Pennsylvania class of armored cruisers. In WoWs she should be modeled in the refitted form.

Defence - British

Minotaur class Armoured Cruisers (1906) - naval encyclopedia

Survivability

33,360 HP

Main Guns

(2x2) 9.2 inch guns

12s reload

12.7 km range

Secondary Guns

(10x1) 7.5 inch guns

11s reload

6 km range

(16x1) 3 inch guns

4s reload

4 km range

Main Belt

6 inches

Maneuverability

23 knots

12.2s rudder shift

Concealment

12.6 km sea

6.6 km air

Consumables

Damage Control Party

Like the previous class of armored cruisers, the Minotaur class armored cruisers carried 9.2 inch guns, but in a much more conventional layout, and more secondary batteries. Like Memphis she is also an upgrade over her predecessor. And again, a very powerful secondary armament.

Edgar Quinet - French

Edgar Quinet class armoured cruisers

Survivability

32,320 HP

Main Guns

(2x2)(10x1) 7.6 inch guns

12s reload

13.9 km range

Secondary Guns

(20x1) 2.6 inch guns

4s reload

4 km range

Maneuverability

Edgar Quinet carried a very heavy broadside for her class and time, she could fire nine of her main guns at once. She carried 5.9 inches of armor on her belt, and could maintain a speed a 23 knots even though she had 6 smoke stacks...

Rurik - Russian

RIURIK armoured cruiser (1909)

Survivability

34,630 HP

Main Guns

(2x2) 10 inch guns

15s reload

11.7 km range

Secondary Guns

(4x2) 8 inch guns

12s reload

6 km range

(20x1) 4.7 inch guns

7s reload

3.5 km range

Main Belt

6 inches

Maneuverability

21 kts

12.9s rudder shift

Concealment

11.6 km sea

6.1 km air

Consumables

Damage Control Party

Ship Repair

Sometimes considered to be one of the most powerful armored cruisers ever built, Rurik was a cruiser designed and built by Vickers for the Imperial Russian navy in 1905. She was the pinnacle of British armored cruisers design in 20th century. In WoWs she will likely be extremely powerful based because she is Russian, but who knows? Maybe since she's on the side of the Whites she's going to be normal.

Blucher - German

Imperial German Navy in World War I - Großen Kruezer Blücher

Survivability

37,180 HP

Main Guns

(6x2) 8.3 inch guns

14s reload

10.8 km range

Secondary Guns

(8x1) 5.9 inch guns

8s reload

6.5 km range

(16x1) 3.5 inch guns

5s reload

4 km range

Main Belt

7.1 inches

Maneuverability

25.4 kts

10.5s rudder shift

Concealment

10.6 km sea

6.9 km air

Consumables

Damage Control Party

Ship Repair

Hydroacoustic Search

Blucher was the last armored cruiser built by the Imperial German Navy and she was a monster. Designed to counter the plans for the first British Battlecruiser she displaced roughly 17,500 tons and carried a the typical layout of German Battleships at the time. I would reckon Wargaming makes her similar to a German Battleship, secondaries and all.

San Giorgio - Italian

SAN GIORGIO armoured cruisers (1910 - 1911)

SAN GIORGIO armoured cruisers (1910 - 1911)

Above: San Giorgio as completed in 1910

Under: San Giorgio after her modernization in 1940

Survivability

1910: 28,400 HP or 1940: 28,700 HP

Main Guns

(2x2) 10 inch guns

12s reload

10.4 km range

Secondary Guns

Original:

(4x2) 7.5 inch guns

10s reload

4.5 km range

(18x1) 3 inch guns

5s reload

3 km range

1940 version:

(4x2) 7.5 inch guns

10s reload

4.5 km range

(4x2) 4 inch guns

5s reload

3.5 km range

Main Belt

7.9 inches

Maneuverability

23 kts

10.3s rudder shift

Concealment

9.8 km sea

5.9 km air

Consumables

Damage Control Party

Ship Repair

I think San Giorgio modernized form would be more fair at T4 because of her more powerful AA complement and more modern form especially because San Giorgio only displaced 11,000 tons but personally, I think the original form looks better.

Georgios Averof - Greek (Pan-European)

Georgios Averof armored cruiser(Pisa-class) - Warship Projects - World of Warships official forum

Survivability

27,120 HP

Main Guns

(2x2) 9.2 inch guns

13.1 km range

Secondary Guns

(4x2) 7.5 inch guns

9s reload

8 km range

(8x1) 3 inch guns

4s reload

4 km range

Main Belt

7.9 inches

Maneuverability

23.5 kts

Concealment

6.2 km air

Georgios Averof was the pride of Hellenic navy, she was commissioned in 1911 and wasn't decommissioned until 1952. She fought in the Balkan War, WW1 and WW2, and became a very successful ship. She would be the first Greek ship in WoWs.

I would also like to see a new type of secondary concept with these ships, because like pre-dreadnoughts, they had twin main armaments, and wargaming would never implement different caliber main armament, so it would make more sense to see long ranged (secondary main armaments) and short ranged (real secondary weapons) secondaries.

PS - I got the super cruiser formula, so I plugged them in.

Thanks for checking out my proposal, some insight below would be greatly appreciated, I am looking forward to armored cruisers in WoWs!

I dont see why any of these need the 3inch gun batteries. Just buff the reload or the accuracy of the other secondaries to make up the difference.

That would simplify things considerably.

Well, because realistically the ships had smaller secondaries... along with the large ones.

The Averof is still ceremoniously commissioned, and was able to have a main battery reload of around 8s. And she did have torpedoes originally. Maybe due to her history and specs, it'd probably be better to place her at T4-5, take away Hydro and give her an engine boost. On multiple occasions she chased after the entire Turkish fleet alone. Could also be her commander skill too.
