Originally scheduled for a 48-team tournament with an 8 team wait-list, NA KotS now has 106 (two wait-listed) teams registered!  I'd say that it's gained some popularity from the absolute brilliance of last season's tournament, especially the Finals broadcast by SeaRaptor00 and Lord_Zath, among others.  Accordingly, the prizes have been updated:

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/589856348750217216/751471254237872248/KOTS_prizes_infographic_NA_1200.jpg

The format is Tier X, 9x9 (12-man teams), no CV, max 2 BB.  A few ships are perma-banned, mostly recent releases.  Eight seeded teams have a bye into Group Stage II.

The schedule has been altered slightly to accommodate the increased participation:

9/13 Swiss Stage, All teams play, 48 advance
9/19 Group Stage I, 48 teams play, 24 advance
9/20 Group Stage II, 32 teams play (seeds included), 16 advance
9/26 Playoffs, 16 teams play, 4 teams advance
9/27 Regional Finals, Semifinals and Finals matches are played

World Championship follows

While the News article is out of date already, it is here:

https://worldofwarships.com/en/news/general-news/kots-11/

The EU regional tournament has also exploded, growing to 136 teams!  There are a few differences, but the EU KotS format and schedule is generally the same as NA.

From the Discord:  "We're pleased to announce that we are trying something entirely new for the international portion of King of the Sea XI.  This season, the top 3 teams from all 4 World of Warships servers will compete against each other in a single-elimination World Championship.  Each match will be a best of 3, with map picks and bans (note for NA: no ship bans in the international).  We've also upped the ante; our King of the Sea World Champions will receive Tier IX premium ships!"

Good sailing and fair winds to all

Surely it's not because KOTS is run by players, who have a far better understanding of why the last 2 seasons of CBs haven't been greatly regarded than WG ever will

Well, "reasons" are obviously speculation, but that reason has been suggested by insiders.

IMO, it's largely because so many players saw how much fun the last tournament was.  And good rewards if the team does well.  Plus, the compressed format makes it easier for teams to clear a block of time to play than for, e.g. Clan Battles.

kots has always been run by players not WG

but this kots is the largest by far, compared to all previous kots

again, these reasons all apply to previous KOTS and not specific to KOTS 11

I have an idea, let's not turn a thread that's supposed to be about KOTS, into yet another sand and salt fest about a particular type of ships in the game.

Oh, lets do; its the reason that interest "exploded"; just like the invitational tournament. Players, especially top competitive players will flock to anything without them.

You broached it :Smile_veryhappy:

So we should just suppress logical, reasonable theory that could possibly be true?

Whether people admit it or not, a good cv player has always been a staple of successful kots teams until they stopped including them. This is true for RTS or action CVs. And it isn't so much the cv player as what their team is able to do with what he provides them. A good cv player is only as good as the team behind him. They complement each other. So whether people realize it or not, the lack of a cv allows teams to compete on a much more level playing field with better teams.

No, just discuss it on one of the 5329 other threads that started on the subject or were derailed by the reeeeeeeeee.

Really want the King of the Sea tournament over so I can complete the collection. Having an unfinished collection is bugging the heck out of me, lol.

playing against quasi-invulnerable ships sucks.

@iDuckman

So its starts next week not this week ???

Who is streaming/commenting on the torny ?

Schedule is as posted.  I'm not sure the group rounds will be widely streamed.  For the Regional and World Finals, I'm hear that they have @SeaRaptor and @Lord_Zath booked again.

It is a measure of how toxic the meta is.

No fires, No floods, unlimited air-ops, press a key and auto-return to ship, no delay between launches, perma spotting, ect...

Its f**king ridiculous.

At least the tourney promises to be more interesting than this thread is turning out to be.

From the last season of clan battles, a lot of the serious teams didn't want CVs included, whether they competed in clan battles or not.

This gives them that opportunity.

I think it is more of wanting this more and more, and now there is an event that works the way they want.

I'm not personally arguing for or against CVs, just that a tournament without them is wanted.

No CVs, Slava or Smolensk....................hmmmm...........message somewhere in there.

From the published rules " As of this season, this list is only comprised of: DD R-10, Kitakami, Puerto Rico, Slava, Smolensk, Vermont "  [sic]  Ships that have been newly released are disallowed ("new" determined by type e.g. Special, tech tree).  Also, teams can add two ship bans *per map* rather than per match like last season.  Not entirely sure how that will work.

One wonders if these rule will place the NA teams at a disadvantage in the World Finals.

Per map is interesting.

They have done this in the past, with competitive modes...so the experienced KOTS teams will be comfortable with the bans
