What can a Kitikami division do better than a Shima Div?

Not seeing a Kitikami division doing any better than a Shimakazee division.

Can someone disabuse me of that notion?

The shima stealth ability I think more than makes up for the loss of 20 torps in a div.

I don't disagree but because the Kitty has broadside mounted torpedoes it functionally only has 20 so the Kitty division has 60 to the Shima division's 45 for a loss of 15 torpedoes. The Kitty has to turn around to use the other side.

Where the Kitty out does the Shima is in turning pink. :Smile_hiding:

The thing is that a max Shima division can put in the water is 45 torps.

Kitakami division can do 120 if they turn around. That's pretty much being able to lock down entire areas of the map without much trouble.

The Kitakami can eat citadels better than Shimakaze... Not sure that's an advantage LOL.

The only thing I can think of Kitakami being better is rushing down the center in Two Brothers...

I would be less worried about the KM than the others. At least you can angle against them. Kuma eats citadels from HE bombs and rockets too and it can't angle those at all. For all real purposes at T10 it has no armor. I'm also picturing a Kitakami trying to fight off a Kleber, or any gunboat DD.

Good point, (I didn't realise T4 HE rockets could cit ships, haven't played Hosho/Langley/Furious since the early days of the rework lol) although it depends on how (or if) Kita's armor differs from that of Kuma.

Kuma can successfully angle against Rhein's rockets, what about Richtofen's?

It might be a case of, you angle, you take full pens. You go broadside, you take overpens and cits.

That's what I was thinking, AFAIK HE rockets don't really scale up in pen, they increase damage by virtue of more rockets equalling more hits, whereas (again AFAIK) AP rockets gain pen and damage as well as the tier increases.

But I certainly agree after being reminded of HE cits, that all CVs will be a threat.

Kitakami eats HE cits from all HE bombs she can encounter in her MM spread barring the RN ones by virtue of having an exposed 50mm citadel deck. TT rockets will likewise score citadels.

Enterprise AP DBs can reliably citadel her even from maximum altitude. No idea about the rest.

A Triple Kitakami Division only cuts into the Cruiser Ship Slots while the number of DDs are unaffected by the team.

 

You can have a Kitakami x3 Div and still have a myriad of Shima, Gearing, Harugumo, Halland, etc. with the number of DD slots untouched.

 

Cruiser Slots are the most worthless in the game.  Replace them with Super Cruisers or "Super Destroyers" like Kitakami to replace normal cruisers.

At that point it becomes more a stew, I would think.

it might depend on the launcher firing angles.  If they angle back pretty far, just a 90 degree, or less, turn might get it done while kiteing. 

I did not play when it was out originally so don't know. But seeing how the launchers were mounted on sponsons they should not have much obstructing their angles.
