Over the weekend dad went to a cattle auction in Montana, its my FIRST time being in he United States, and I got to say, you guys have some strange ways of doing things, and most are just like ours, the money is kinda confusing some look different but are the same and nobody takes Canadian, that close to the border you'd thing the Pepsi machine would take a dollar. other than that it was great, oh I got my Pepsi at the gas station's little store, how convenient huh?

Isn't Canada's border closed to the US due to the pandemic?  Why would you come here?

Normally, I'd say the US is great to visit, but civil unrest and world hotspot of COVID would advise delaying the trip a year or so.

Agreed.

As a Canadian, I have no intent of crossing the border until things settle down quite a bit over there.

We're far from perfect, but it seems we at least somewhat have a handle on the pandemic to some degree right now.  Number of outbreaks here in Ontario has been steadily declining for seven straight weeks now.

Welcome to the US!   I like Alberta a lot and have traveled all through Canada.  What was it that you found so strange about attending a cattle sale in Montana?  You are probably a young person who is just now getting out in the world is my guess.  Have fun and travel as much as possible to rub the provincialism off.  Remember that you can't get vinegar with your fries and chips unless you ask for it, no one knows what a took (or toque) is and poutine is universally reviled by those who know what it is ;)

Yeah the vending machine thing is a pain. In MI (pretty close) some machines even give you CAN$ as change on occasion, but you can't use them anywhere.

And whose money are you calling funny? At least ours is all one color!

I would worry more over the COVID than cattle organizing for a protest march. I know what Montana is like and have been there.

I've been to montana a few times. Even the capital of billings is pretty sparsely populated. Tbh it's one of the least warm coronavirus spots in the country and far lower than many nations. Glad to hear you had a good time.

Well, Montana.  The news you're basing your evaluation on doesn't know that Montana exists.

Yeah, I concede that Montana's likely in a pretty different world then me.  I live near Atlanta, so the civil unrest is quite a bit more of a thing in this part of the US.

COVID is too, I'm in my fourth week of recovering from it.  Last night was the first night of Clan Battles where I didn't get heart arrhythmia, so that's progress.  Heart and lungs are still playing catchup, and no real idea when they're crossing the finish line just yet.

A couple of decades ago, I would go to work, take the daily corporate jet to Montreal, work there for a day or so and come fly home......tough life, eh?!  The first time I visited Montreal, it was nice to see a city that seemed so subdued and gentle.   The people didn't like Americans at all but, they surely took US money and then said something nasty under their breath in quasi-French...!  They are still fighting to this day and that same corporate jet still makes that trip weekly now; and, I am retired, I still hear that nothing has changed there......

I lived in Maine for a while and taught there.  Guess what I saw every Friday night:  a caravan of thousands of Canadian RV's and cars headed towards Walmart & SAM's club.....  It make the State Police crazy because of the volume of vehicles....  During the Summers, you couldn't get an appointment for any high tech medical procedures locally: because the State had thousands of Canadian's in line, 24x7 waiting (wife worked in a hospital).....  When the seasons got cold, things returned to normal.....somewhat.....surgical spaces were always full.  Walmart and Sam's parking lots were one huge RV park Friday through Monday.....  What does that say?

I live north of Canada (well, at least north of @Ace_04).  I like vinegar with my fries, can you send me some packets, Ace?

That seems to be an ethically German thing: because, growing up among the Amish et al., that was the norm !

Yeah, but back in the day, the only way to get real beer was to cross the border going north.  My dad used to make trips most days when we were on vacation in upstate New York.

A real example of this is the Aroostook Valley Golf Course at Fort Fairfield Maine......  The front nine are in the US and the back Nine are in Canada...!   A prohibition designed lynx golf course....   Go ahead, top that !!!  Google it and it's was a great course and part of the Black Bear Classic series for UM.....

Were in Montana did you go?  My mothers side of the family is from Montana. My grandfather had a farm in Billings and raised shorthorn cattle. I'm the only one left alive in the family and currently have up for sale a forty acre lot and a ten acre lot that were part of my grandfather's farm.

I hope you had better luck at the border crossing than these folks.
