Finally experienced the idiocy that is AP rockets

Got dragged into a Tier 10 match in the Tier 8 Amalfi. German Tier 10 CV comes in with AP rocket planes, so I angle to 35-40 degrees to mitigate the damage. 83% of my hp gone within one minute of the game starting.

Not worth uploading the file, but close your eyes an imagine a ship just starting to move forward when it's almost dev struck.

Not as good as a CV snipe, but getting there.

Unfortunately I wasn't broadside at all. Being angled did nothing. Maybe it's just an Italian cruiser thing?

Post-AP rocket release

- AP rockets are OP! They can kill cruisers to easy!

- Slowly sail away making no sudden movements.

You got proof?  Fooling around with Tier VIII Von Parceval in Co-op, if there's angling by the Cruiser, Citadels aren't happening, especially in High Tier where stuff gets more heavily armored.

I was wrong and @Dr_Venture was right: I was not angled enough. It was also not within the first minute: it was at 18:58. His planes made it across the map, into the spawn, and took 87% of my HP just over one minute into the game. This was after already dumping part of his squad.

just angle to the planes while giving broadside to every enemy ship!

being able to set up crossfires via cv is just what we needed!

Still very broken.

You see AP rocket planes coming from a long ways out and you took no defensive measure.  Come on, man...

I don't know about you, but I got it beat into me in the RTS CV days that planes getting around your ship's area meant you better start taking defensive action.  I sure as hell didn't wait until the planes got their ordnance off on me.

So you are saying that, upon loading in and starting to move your ship forward, you would immediately be able to nimbly turn your ship to defend against AP rocket planes that had already made it completely across the map. I guess it's possible.

A minute in? Yeah. That's more than enough time to get up the speed, throw the rudder, and bounce all/nearly all of the rockets. You loading slow is not a balance issue, it's a personal issue.

So this is what happened from my point of view. I essentially sped into their cap zone on a recon run, saw him and took a swing. I actually wiffed my rocket salvo the first run through. My clanmate was the one who tagged him with a Yammy from max range with the ledgendary mod. He was still stopped when I came back for a follow up strike and hit him for round 16k. 

I went looking for him again, but he took off and I went after BB's with AP bombers. 

Thing is, those strikes are very rare IMHO. It takes alot to set up the strike as you have to:

  1. Find a target either stopped or engaged
  2. Set up the strike
  3. Hold speed boost for the drop *MEEP MEEP*
  4. HIT THE BRAKES right before the release

Basically 4 steps where WSAD can screw it totally, yet when I get in...I get the cookie. 

EXCEPT THOSE DAMN RU LIGHT CRUISERS totally hard to get more than 10k off em. 

Now Moskva and DM.....oh baby....can hit em for 26k easy. 

I pay for this in fragile planes, and inability to hunt DD's.

I mean the planes gets detected from at least 10km away

 

If you're not really paying attention to the minimap you have no one else to blame, but yourself for taking those AP rockets that can chuck away 20k HP each pass on a broadside

Sry to say OP, but you got caught out in a bad spot and paid for it, even if it was right at the start.

Looking at the pic you showed, specifically the Mini-map:

You spawned on a flank and happened to be spotted and targeted by a squadron as well as by a BB. Doc says he wiffed on the first pass, but the BB didn't. He also says that you weren't moving when he came back on his second.
Obviously without the replay I cant say for sure what happened, but a non moving target is much easier to hit then a moving one.

As soon as battle starts, you need to be moving.
If you are spotted by aircraft, you need to figure out if they are coming for you, as well as assume shells are on their way in from long range.


Edit: and while I was reading and typing this up, a replay got put out......
