So I've been enjoying WOWS for a while now and even have a couple T10's without spending money. I do have some premium ships that I got through events such as the the T5 Kirov that became a premium with the RU cruiser split, or the T5 Genova you could get when they introduced the Italian cruisers. Although they are better than nothing, their really average to below average and not useful to get credits, train a captain etc. Besides these I have the T10 Smolensk since I didn't spend my coal from day 1 and have only asked for the "more resources" containers every time I play so was barely able to afford it two days before it was removed. I continue to save up coal, steel , and freexp to get some higher tier premium ships such as the Flint and Black when they get added back into the armory for coal, or the Alaska. However, these ships are expensive and it will take me a very long time to get enough resources for any of them.

I've hit several roadblocks recently. The first being that I struggle to make enough credits to keep up with me researching new modules or new ships (I have unlocked the T9 F.D.G. and have enough xp to unlock the T10 Midway but don't have nearly enough credits to afford either). The second is that I am struggling to get the last few commander points to get a 19 point captain so that I can start earning elite commander xp (I have a 14pt in my Lexington, a 16pt in my Smolensk, and a 15pt in my Daring). The last issue is that I would like to be earning freexp, coal, and steel faster if I can. So if a premium ship/time can help me get freexp faster, get the daily containers quicker, and/or help me in competitive modes that would be nice.

My question is what would you suggest I do? Is premium ships/time not worth it and I should just continue on? Should I look at getting a premium ship? Which one/tier? Is my money better spent on premium time? If I do decide to spend money what time of the year is best to purchase: Black Friday, Christmas, New Years? Those who decided to spend money is there anything you regret doing/buying? How much did it really help you?

If you want to spend money and are looking to earn more credits/xp/etc, your best option is premium time. It boosts your credit earning (to the point where it’s almost impossible to lose credits at any tier without a really bad game), and boosts your xp/fxp/cxp earnings by 60% (so you get to the third daily crate quicker). Premium time will definitely boost your xp earnings and will speed up your coal earnings (assuming you play to two crates on standard account and three on premium), but the only way to get reliable steel income is through CB and ranked, and joining a clan with an upgraded steel base that can boost your steel earnings by 10%.

Premium ships are good for earning credits, as well as fulfilling certain mission requirements or retraining captains, but those benefits only apply when you actually play the ship. And the economy bonuses they provide are less than what premium time does. When it comes to premium ships, I’d recommend focusing on getting the coal/free xp ones for free in game, and only buying a cash premium if the ship or gameplay itself actually interests you enough to play it a lot. I’ve bought a total of four premiums with cash so far (Mass, Indy,  Boise, and P Bagration), and probably the only one I’d say I somewhat regret is Boise only because I don’t play it as much as I did when I first bought it. The rest of my 40 something premiums and special ships in port were bought with in game resources or earned for free through events.

If you do decide to buy premium time, either wait until December or get enough to make it to December. Outside of rare premium time discounts throughout the year (that I haven’t seen them offer in a while), the only discounted premium time comes at Christmas. They’ve always offered a bundle for 12.5k doubloons and 30 days of premium for $50, and 12k doubloons buys a years worth of premium in game, so you get 390 days of premium plus 500 doubloons for $50 when a year of premium typically costs $100.

If you are only wanting to spend limited amounts of money I would say go for some good premium ships as those can always earn extra credits and XP where as premium time only earns you extra for the limited time it lasts. Of course both combined are the best at earning credits.

I am free to play as well and during times of free premium time I use special credit signal flags, camo, and premium ships to stock up large amounts of credits to help get me through times without premium time. Of course I will use premium ships here and there even without premium time and earn decent amounts.

Go Premium time, put every single flag you got for Commander XP on Smolensk, and go crazy on farming Commander XP. When you get one 19 point Commander, the subsequent ones come easier. If you are a long term player, around Winter Holidays there is an option for premium time 50% off. There are also some coupons lying around for your account anniversary and whatnot.

I found that premium time was my best purchase value for what it earned back.  It helps on every ship.

This.

In addition, considering your number of games, I would STRONGLY advise that you drop back and spend time playing ships in the middle tiers.

Raw experience does matter in terms of how well you earn credits and such, but I say to do so because it will help you build up your reserves of credits and free xp.

It’s a straight-forward calculation; mid tiers cost less to play, so if you do even moderately well, your reserves will build up, and you’ll have the problems with resources you mentioned less and less.

I recommend premium account time over premium ships, because it allows you to continue progressing tech tree lines while maintaining benefit. Premium account also applies when playing other modes like Scenaios, Ranked, and Clan Battles. A premium ship, while non-expiring, will not benefit you when grinding tech tree ships, or if a certain season of Ranked is at the wrong tier.

Premium account time, when purchased at discount rates, is good to have.  Extra xp and credits is always good.

The caveat is that it will make your credit shortage worse, not better.

Premium time boosts your credits by 50% but boosts your xp earnings by 65%.

You get where you want to go quicker but you will have fewer credits when you get there.

The premium ships can be very good at helping to level up captains and like the upcoming tier 8 Ranked I can make a fortune in credits and various forms of XP by using my tier 8 premium ships even without premium time. ( I don’t have 3.1 million free XP, and about 180 million credits for nothing. As well as 13x 19 point captains.)

Get a classic, tried and true premium that won't break the bank and never gets dull. Atago or Sims.

True, but unless you buy a diverse selection of premium ships, you could burn out just playing a limited few ships.

It just depends on your outlook and cash availability. Myself, I prefer premium time, as I can swing $15/month, and play whichever of my 70ish ships I feel like at the time. Mind you, I also have Musashi, Georgia, and Thunderer, (and Alaska in under 200k FXP) so I do have high-tier options when on a standard account.

Both are rock solid choices.  Good earners and pretty noob friendly.  :cap_like:

I would add Warspite to that list.  She is my top earner because of her versatility.

Most current ops are tier 6 so it makes sense to have a powerful premium at that tier.

I've been buying 360 days of premium time for something like $47, but that deal is usually only available for a week or two right around Christmas.  I did this in Dec. 2018 and Dec. 2019.  Between those two purchases, plus a couple of others that came with premium time (like the PEF event and the much hated PR event), random crates, and various events that give you a day here and there, I'm currently good through around November 2021.  It makes grinding a lot less painful, and you can afford to actually play your tier IX and X ships without losing credits if you have a bad game.

Something I do, is I spend doubloons on a camo for a ship I enjoy playing. For me, that would be the tier 10 Montana.

With this camo, I can rake in a lot of credits on a good game and even if I have a bad game I still make credits.

This lets me play the Montana aggressively because I don’t worry about losing credits.

I get bored with the stagnant tier 10 gameplay sometimes, so this is a win win for me!

If you are a F2P player as you say you are OP why are you considering spending money? Don't become a  hypocrite - stay truly F2P.

This is an excellent point, and what I do. If have a T10 I like, I get the perma camo. No more credit problems.

I'd either premium time or ships are good and will help solve your issue. But which one depends on how you play. I have taken the premium ship route. Credits aren't a problem for me, despite playing a lot of high tier. Couple reasons. First one is the Missouri, but that's not an option for you. Second is while I'm not great, I'm good enough to make some profit or at least negligible loss on most games. Then of the high tier ships I play, most are premiums and almost all the rest have perma camos. This means I'm making money almost every game. Add in signals and clan bonuses and it's rare I lose money. Now that may sound expensive, but it's not that bad. GA, AK, and MO were basically free. Mass Black was dirt cheap on black friday, and the only one I paid full price for was the Alabama, my first T8 premium. Then there's the perma camoes for 3 T10s, plus the free one for Moskva (thanks WG). Over four years that's not bad. I have zero credit problems and don't usually run a premium account. As Lert pointed out, premium ships never run out. I don't always play everyday so I waste a lot of premium time if I can't play for a week, or just don't feel like playing. But my premium ships are always there. Premium time is nice, but for me ships work better. Also financially I prefer to make a bigger onetime payment if I have the spare cash rather than quasicommitting to a monthly expenditure that I may or may not get full use out of. Even If I had paid full price for my Missouri (via FXP conversion) I would still be ahead in terms of use compared to paying the same amount of money for premium time.

Premium time is nice, don't get me wrong. When I get it (events, containers, etc) I go from 2 containers a day to 3 for the same effort. But I'd say make sure you're going to use it everyday, or premium ships are going to be a better use of money. Perma camoes are a good option too, while they may not print money they will allow you to play your favorite ships without taking out a loan.

In terms of regrets, don't really have any. I've always been careful to research my premium ships before buying, so have avoided any ones I hate. Two things on buying a ship. Read the reviews first. Don't just instantly buy it as soon as you see it. A lot of people regretted insta-buying the CA. When you read reviews, while the reviewer's opinion on whether the ship is good or bad is important, more so is why. Because even if a ship is OP, if you don't like the way it plays you shouldn't buy it. So make sure a ship fits your style before buying. So if you're a BB main, the newest gunboat DD may not be your cup of tea, despite the rave reviews. Exercise care in buying a ship.

Then there's the tier. First, if you get a premium for credits/XP it should be one you can do well in. The Georgia may be great, but if you're mostly a T7 guy you're not going to do well, and so not make profit. Pick a ship you're comfortable in. A well played T7 premium will make you more money than a bad T9 (MO excepted, that ship is broken). However, if you're comfortable, T8 premium is the sweet spot for money making. The credit earning does increase from there, but not as much as the repair cost (again, MO excepted).

Finally your clan can knock a respectable bit off your repair bill if you have researched that facility. I don't know what your clan situation is, but I strongly suggest you get in one that can get you access to a fully upgraded base. That significantly helps your economy.

Finally, as designed you aren't supposed to make profit in high tiers without paying. Playing mid tier ships will boost your credits without paying, and even if you do shell out, that still improves your balance. Try to play a mid tier ship for every high tier battle. That will really help. If you don't want to do that, then WG expects you to pay.

If you are considering making a one time purchase I would go with a ship.

Premium time is $10 a month plus there has been a half price sale, $50, during the Christmas/new years holidays for 360 days of premium time.

Premium time has 2 negatives. One is it runs out. The other is it is addicting especially if you do a lot of upper tiered battles. I'm certain you picked up a few premium days and noticed the difference in payouts.

I played World of Warcraft for years. You pay for the game & expansion packs plus $15 a month.

Personally I don't think the ten bucks is a high price if you enjoy the game.

This is my perspective.

Premium time has been great. I bought one month a couple of months ago and have earned an additional 2-3 weeks worth as I've gone on different tasks. The credits are well worth it, I've had no trouble or frustration with buying new ships via credits and even rebuying old ones that I sold off even though I enjoyed. I simply don't have the patience to earn a high tier ship 100k at a time and 50k a pop in co-op. I'll def pay for another month when this runs out unless I am not playing enough to justify, but atm I am playing for an hour or so almost every day. Wayyyyy better than a prem ship. Even though I've fallen down that trap too ...

Summery,; If I was starting it all over, I'd skip most of the premium ships and just do premium time.

I am stingy with my camos and flags, I tend to only use them until my first win of the day per ship I am currently playing OR when I want to finish a line ASAP.

One nice thing about premium time is that it's immune to meta shifts, it doesn't get powercreeped, and is unaffected by global nerfs.
