The ship visibility is backwards on this game. A DDs sighting range is 3 miles to horizon. you clam they can see a BB because its mast sticks up above the horizon and the BBs range is about 15 miles. But a BB can not see the DD since its mast is only visible about 3 to 5 miles.  The CAs are somewhere in between these. What should happen is that a BB can see the hull of a DD at 15 miles since a lookout on the BB can see that far. But you have it so that a BB can never see that far and that a ship can fire its deck guns which flash fire and light and emit a great amount of smoke but is still invisible to the BB. This is actually backwards of the way it should be. If you go by history most ships in WW1 and WW2 were spotted by their smoke from the stacks. It did not matter what size ship was emitting  smoke but it did matter what size ship spotted it since BBs could see 15 miles while DDs 3 to 5 miles. This game has a great number of super stealth ships that can not be seen by BBs no matter what. You need to fix this super stealth you have given DDs and CAs. I am not even going into the way deck guns on a DD can sink a BB and never be spotted by the BB.

9400 battles and you're just now realizing this game isn't realistic?

With that many battles if you can't figure out that IRL spotting mechanics would be zero fun for anyone but the BBs, then me explaining it isn't going to help you. It's called balance.

Yes it is called balance but when the balance is so far off it bares no resemblance to reality something needs to change. It used to be much better and the firing of weapons that can never be seen from ships that should be seen anyway is pure fantasy.

A. Arcade game with cool ship models. Reality is whatever WG says it is. Long list of items where WG reality violates physical laws and ship capabilities.

B. The only way to balance ships if WG did away with concealment would be to give ships a realistic hit ratio. Your salvos would completely miss most of the time at  any ship making efforts to dodge your shells at anything but short ranges.

The spotting mechanics have way larger problems than the range. The game is uber arcadish, akin to some NES level software solutions. There is no difference in against what background a ship is being spotted, if its moving, what is the total surface area exposed, etc. The game is simple and easy to play, there are sacrifices to achieve that. Maybe you want to play a ship simulator, this is most definitely not the game for that. Microprose(was a super cool war sim company back in the late 80s and early 90s) is working on some good stuff, you should look it up, maybe you like that better.

How did it use to be much better?  It used to be that some ships, mostly DDs, could see and shoot at some other ships, mostly BBs, without being spotted in return.  It was called Open Water Stealth Firing, or OWSF, and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth when gun bloom was changed to match the range of a ship's guns.

You are right in a way DDs could sneak up on ships and fire torpedoes but if they fired the deck guns they were viable to everyone. Now they sit back and fire deck guns hitting BBs that can never see them or get close to them. The same with CAs they sit back next to a BB firing at an enemy ship and you can not see the CA but if the BB right next to it fires it is viable. This is a major flaw. If you can see a BB that fires its guns you should see a CA that fire its guns or a DD that fires. Smoke will change this of course but that is rare.

Um, you have this backwards.  OWSF was removed.  It used to be the case that some ships, such as Błyskawica and Zao, could sit in open water near their extreme range and shoot at ships without being seen in return.  That was removed by making gun bloom cause a ship's spotting range to expand out to whatever their current maximum range is.

Yes, ships can fire from smoke or behind islands and not be seen, but literally nothing has been changed in that regard from the time of closed beta.  Nothing has been changed about DD's ability to fire torpedoes while concealed.

then in that case their are major bugs in the system since I have repeatedly been fired on by CAs that I never see that are in open water. So the stealth built into those ships is pure fantasize.

Yes, the stealth is pure fantasy, that is true.

Post replays of ships firing and not being spotted and some of us will be happy to look at them.
