I swear, it's somebody hitting a pan with a hammer.

More like someone hitting an old galvanized garbage can with a bat. I understand the reason for the sound cue but it is irritating and unnecessary as the damage indication is more than enough as far as I am concerned.

Is it just me? Or is the sound the same regardless of range to target?

Also, the plane sounds don't seem to have any Doppler effect.

it seems that they keep screwing with things they don't need to screw with and screw UP things they need to screw with....

The overall code for the sound maybe much better but for me it is difficult to tell due to the irritating noise reaching my ears. It's worse than scraping fingers across a blackboard. Quint only did it once in Jaws.

There are certain sounds that don't seem to attenuate over distance, and OTHER ships being hit seems to be one of them -- and some of those other-ship-taking-hits sounds aren't affected by the damage volume slider, so I'm still hearing them with that slider set to zero.

It’s a notification sound, not an impact sound.

There are also some impact sounds, which are we talking about?

Given that he says it's like hitting a pan with a hammer, and someone else says beating on a trashcan, it's probably the impact sound they're referring to.

Fair enough, that makes more sense then.

The lack of Doppler effect on the planes is really my biggest pet peeve though.

What I want to know, is why my HE sounds like a ricochet when it fails to penetrate?

I get that it's supposed to be a notification of how effective your salvo is, but we already have ribbons for that, and rapid fire ships now sound like fifty people all throwing garbage cans at each other.

This for me, too. Not the end of the world, but it often sounds like planes are right overhead when they're not even within your air detection range.

The aircraft sounds seem to be tied to the engine noise slider, so there's a way to turn them down/off, but only if you're OK with turning the ship's engine noises down.

Personally, I am, I don't need engine noises in the bridge of my ship.

Im too busy dodging the infernal things to notice; although, having that as an audio clue might help in the dodging.

Yes, kind of an odd sound, imho. Also, it gives the impression that I really got a good hit and then I see the damage, an overpen for 1350:cap_old:

To be honest, I'm with you.

I first noticed it with a friendly ship's cat fighters in a relatively quiet section of map lol.

The sound that I hear that is the most odd is one that sounds like a pinball machine.  I don't know if it's a ricochet, shatter or a pen.

The engine and gun reload sounds are not something that I associate with those types of machinery. I've tried turning them down to minimal so that I hear something, but today I've just turned off damage sounds.

That sound is more like a turd hitting the bottom of an empty oil barrel.   The latest sound update is absolute trash.

I'm not familiar with that sound.

I like the new sounds, but there needs to be some tweaks, imo.

1. The hit notification is fine for BBs that land hits every 20-30-40 seconds. It can get really bad for rapid fore ships like the Smol/Kita/etc.. though.

2. No dopplar effect for aircraft :(

I don't find it horrid, but I do wish it weren't quite so awkward. Would be better IMO to just give us a check box to turn it off completely.

Don't you get different sound for different hit?

Quote

Added new sound effects for hits that depend on the type (ricochet, penetration, over-penetration) and degree of damage caused or received.

Can anyone articulate which sound for which hit?  And what if in a salvo, 1 is overpen, 1 hit, and 1 richchet, what sound do you get?
