26,682 [ARGSY] Ensign_Cthulhu Members 32,496 posts 33,935 battles Report post #1 Posted July 6, 2020 Friday night was a whole mishmash of things to get the Naval Battles points for my clan, then I went into hardcore Izumo grinding mode with the Ignis Purgatio (still on its as-many-as-you-can-fit-in-before-9.7 XP bonus mode) and a few others interspersed in between. I started with the Izumo on 22,210 XP and finished with 107,000 and change, at which point I researched the C hull, skipping B entirely and saving myself nearly four and a half million credits. In addition, my Izumo captain got a YUUUUUUGE training boost, and he is about 430K CXP and change from becoming my SEVENTH 19 pointer. Given that I still have 246,000 XP to grind out on Izumo (without fire control and engine modules, which I intend to bypass), and a little over 200,000 elite commander XP in hand, I could easily do it even before he moves up into the Yamato. However, since this will put a hefty premium on his retraining bonus, I might leave that well alone until I've actually moved him up - unless of course I get there by happenstance first. Then the ECXP can go toward retraining him, or I can rotate him between the Ignis and the Musashi until he is done. The sooner I get these directives cleared away, the sooner I can get back to grinding the Izumo. And one of the missions in Directive 5 is for Japanese battleships. Convenient, that!

90 chrisope Members 470 posts 23,326 battles Report post #3 Posted July 6, 2020 Played quite a bit this weekend, except for Friday. Worked on a bunch of ships since we've had the 200% bonus for the weekend and part of next week. Finished all but one task for the 4th directive in the DY, and if I'm reading it right, should have the Odin in my port by the middle of next week at the latest. Then can just work on gaining some steel (I did use the 8000 doubloons option at the start of the DY event to get to this point; but haven't spent any others since that point). Amagi is still being worked on to get to the Izumo; still quite a bit away, but working on it. Worked on a bunch of my T8 and T9 ships for progress, and of course on ECXP. Finding time to work on all the lines is not easy. Today worked from the russian line to the US line as they were closer to DY events, and also for the last regular task in the 3rd part of the Swirski campaign (need about ~ 500k credits to get the last stars to finish that, then the final task and on to the 4th level). The 200% for first win has definitely been a help with progress.

3,581 Admiral_Thrawn_1 Members 12,709 posts 14,320 battles Report post #5 Posted July 6, 2020 My Odin grind has been far more relaxed as I knew going into it that I would not be able to get the Odin. Particularly as I spent my saved Doubloons on getting Atago which I have absolutely no regrets in doing, on the contrary I absolutely love Atago. And few days ago I got the Graf Spee with that new special camo for it which is nice as I have had the HSF Graf Spee, So now the captain that is especially specced for Graf Spee can now use 2 of them. So as far as the even goes it’s only the Dragon flags left for me to get which if I get them that’s nice, but if not then there are other sources for getting those. My main goal at the moment has been getting the steel and coal each day while doing some work on 4 lines I am grinding.
1,154 shinytrashcan Members 1,872 posts Report post #6 Posted July 6, 2020 Weekend was very mixed for me, at times the potato-density was really high. Guess a lot of people took the chance and dusted off WOWS and took their favorite boat out for a spin. Today was a lot better tough. Got the Odin grind done, I spent the 8000 doubloons early on since I was not sure how tough the directives would actually be for me personally. 8k for Odin and Spee (which I also didn't have prior) seemed like a good deal. plus some coal and steel. I played mostly Jutland and Des Moines, with ok success. Got a lot of XP on Jutland, and the cap is 18 points right now. Need about another 100k to get to Daring, as well as a ton of credits. Still struggling to do decent damage in Jutland with around 60k on average. I just can't get the torps to work to deal with BBs and larger CAs/CLs. It is however a lot of fun hunting DDs. Other than that I did 2 or 3 games in NC again, which went not great. I guess this kind of BB is not my flavor, at least I need to learn a lot more to get better. Current winrate in her is atrocious. Fifth directive THIS week, sixth directive NEXT week... sounds about right, but be warned that Directive 6 is more grindy than the rest. I will try to have the tasks for that up in my summary in the next couple of days. Tier 7 and above only! 4 hours ago, shinytrashcan said: Got the Odin grind done, I spent the 8000 doubloons early on since I was not sure how tough the directives would actually be for me personally. 8k for Odin and Spee (which I also didn't have prior) seemed like a good deal. plus some coal and steel. I wouldn't have sunk 8000 doubloons into the Odin alone because it's too close to the usual purchase price for a T8 BB and I already have the Graf Spee; but in your case you go home early with a T6 and a T8 premium ship for that amount, and no need to sweat any Odin directives for the entirety of the next patch, so it's a good deal.

So we do need to spend doubloons to get the Odin either way correct? Can't achieve it by just hair-pulling-caffine-overload-no-sleep-grind? My instincts tells me that I can't without paying in with doubloons.

Got the Hak as my fifth t10 with an 18 pt capt in her. Unlocked the RB just in time to work on the missions for extra points.

No. I have been completing the directives (i.e. unlocking the next one) in 1-2 nights of play, sometimes entirely in co-op. The last couple are grindier, but we still have the better part of four weeks to finish the both of them. Some of the specific tasks that give Dockyard stages are far too grindy for a relaxed approach, but with the next directive already unlocked you can complete them at leisure, and you should choose your tasks to that end. The 3500 doubloon price for this event (Cf. 10,000 or above as the usual asking price for a T8 BB) is the price we pay for not having to do the hair-pulling caffeine-overload thing this time around. Given that most of those who got the Puerto Rico (which I deliberately did not) had to do the hair pulling caffeine overload AND dubs for that event, I much prefer this one. It’s a Steel. Ground out the Odin and first Odin-derived steel package. Friday, used the Vladivostok to rocket to Rank 3 in the Sprint, on a really hot streak. with krakens, first bloods, dreadnoughts, and high calibers in tow. Saturday was much more of a win-loss affair, but still managed to rank out. Ground Riga from 120k EXP to ~200k. Randoms were brutal for outcomes, though.
