Sounds like he wants it so you can shoot torps in the water to destroy them, and get rid of the "aim here" or lead marker when using the torpedo launcher. I remember reading about a cargo ship with a AA gun trying to blast apart torps but I think it was a novel. Might be interesting if you could. Or what about torpedo nets.
