Doomed to fail. I mean, if the forum is to be believed it's no fun playing against higher tiers and lower tier ships can't do anything against higher tiers, right?

Please introduce a new game mode like Payload (or we can call it Escort) where you have to escort a ship from one point to another before time runs out (and obviously there will be respawns). This mode was most similarly done in a Halloween event where you had to escort Transylvannia, and it would be so much fun.

I'd also like to see more Scenarios with high-tier ships that would redo epic historical battles, like the Battle of Dunkirk or the Battle of Midway or the Battle of Leyte Gulf, etc.

There's so much potential and you guys haven't capitalized on it.

Certainly an interesting idea to test. I would think that if it did not work out well for Random battles it might be a great option for Coop.....

cant you guys do something like this for the operations to widen what ships we can bring to ops instead of it having to be a tier 6 or 7 ship only? 

I wouldn't mind doing Defense Newport as a team 3 tier 10 ships I wanna be the Ohio shredding them with secondaries or 12 tier 4 ships.

Was this not tried once before and failed and was rejected.

What happened to the close testing of a MODE with convoys, did that just disappear.

I can 5 or 6 HE spammers at tiers 5 to 6 plus torpedo boats reeking havoc here yes this will work just great NOT.

It's worth a try.  Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing a point based system (I guess you could use the credit price of ships, or something along those lines), where each team is worth an equal number of points, but the number of ships and the tiers could vary wildly.  In theory, a ship like Kuma could have been in the same battle as an Iowa class BB during WW2.  Maybe have 3 separate eras (1900-1919 / 1920-1939 / 1940-1955 ).  A ship that was (or could have been) in service during a given era would have whatever refits are appropriate for that time period.

@Hapa_Fodder - it will be interesting to know how this plays out. In the meantime, I have my popcorn and am looking forward to hearing the screams of rage from the usual suspects who behave as if the announcement of a closed test means immediate imposition on the live server. Given that Tiers 5 to 7 can see each other regularly anyway, and Tier 5 ships are not always the lowest finishers, I have a sneaking suspicion that the battles will be in favour of the larger team.

Twelve Tier 5 vs four tier EIGHT might be interesting to see, though.

OK its 12.25 am Im about the hay but I will look through the  news articulates in the morning don't want to be accused of misinformation.

One reason I remember this because a fellow POP played some in it, actually the more I think now it may not have been a closed test but again i will look into it as my memory.

Also just sent a PM to the POP that played it on our discord hopefully he will have some info.

Way before my time, LOL.

That looked like it was against bots only, and was the great grand-daddy of Operations, but unfortunately there's not enough in the news post to indicate whether you would be facing higher-tier opposition or simply numerically stronger opposition. I think I might have liked it.

This looks more along the lines of a human vs. human thing.

Little sketchy on details (I know, shocking) but it could be interesting.

You know there are players that are going to be looking forward to smashing lower tier boats.

And another group looking forward to smashing higher tier boats.

I can see overmatch being hugely prevelent. Low tier battleships might not be able to overrmatch parts of high tier cruiser/battleships, while high tier battleships will overmatch everything. Still, could be a cool idea.

I think the asymmetrical battles sounds pretty neat - mainly because the game desperately needs some additional variety in battle modes  - there may well be possible issues with it with weak players, even in an op ship they will be mediocre at best - Fun - but perhaps not best in random battles.  

  I have thought of the lack of battle modes in this game a lot  - and discussed at length with others - the idea i have come up with / would like to see is add a new battle mode - separate from random/coop etc ... "The Arcade"  battle mode ... in this battle mode the old "bastion" forts in the caps that was removed could live ... arms race, the seasonal attack/defend mode that was a lot of fun - the asymmetrical battles could fit quite well in here , as could randomized team size battles say 5v5, 7v7, 9v9 - just adjust xp/credits a little so folks don;t lose credits compared to 12v12  stuff ...  you could also add a night battles mode akin to cherry blossom, with random light flares to aid spotting  and such ... have many modes - restrict the least popular to say 1 in 20 chance of spawning ... This kind of variety and non typical game mode would be a welcome change when a person gets frustrated from a bad run in random battles , ranked etc ...  

Thoughts ?

I fully support this as a separate game mode similar to Co-op, Randoms, Ops, etc (which the word "mode" implies).   More modes, more variety, more choices, those are good things. 

If it ever becomes simply a thing matchmaker can do to existing battle modes, then I'm 100% opposed. 

 

E:  asym battles, if they can be made to work, also open up the possibility of subs vs escorts in a specific game mode more suited to both subs and those sorts of surface ships.

I played this on the test server when it came out.  It was 6 Vs 12.  The 6 was the human side.  It was OK if there were mostly human players there.  Now if most of the human side was bots it was usually pretty ugly for the human side.  The bots usually suicided instantly.  Now the AI for the bots has changed a bit, so it might be interesting to try again.

if both team are human, then this isnt going to work, unless the team with more players screws up massively, theyll win everytime just because of outnumbering the other team 2:1

*edit* didnt see the smaller team is T6-8 while the other caps at T6, still, having a 2:1 setup against your enemy is going to be a big advantage
